There are a million ways to not write. We can make it too special, or not special enough. We can do other things that pretend to be research or preparation, when the story itself would be much better served by overcoming every form of timidity, laziness, or self-deception—anything that stands in the way of a first draft.
You’re reading this because you’ve chosen a warrior path. You desire a victory over that part of yourself that stops you or holds you back. I can’t beat that part of you into submission. It wouldn’t be good for you if I did. What I can do is hold up a mirror and urge you to look. Without self-recognition, the tools are useless.
