Kearns Scholar Attends Harvard Conference, Wins Impact Challenge
Kearns Scholar John Cole (T5 Class of 2020) was accepted to the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) conference in Boston. The four day conference took place in mid-February, and Cole was selected as one of 30 HPAIR Scholars among the 300 delegates for this competitive conference. To offset the remaining costs of attendance, he received supplemental funding from the Kearns Center. While at the conference attending the Social Policy & Justice track, Cole competed with a team of 3 other delegates in the Humanitarian Policy Impact Challenge, and won!

Are you a senior with a serious academic interest in China—or in Asia in general?
The UR nomination process is open for the 2019-20 Chinese Government Scholarship, a one-year award for pursuit of non-degree studies in Chinese language and culture or other disciplinary studies. This is open to students of all majors, and prior knowledge of Mandarin (or other Chinese languages) is not required.

UR may select up to four students, excluding citizens of China, for this one-year scholarship, which covers tuition and living expenses. Applicants choose from a directory of participating institutions across China and must list three institutional preferences. Some institutions offer non-degree courses in English.

Application materials will be due by February 20th for the internal nomination process. Full application details can be found on the Fellowships Office website.

Currently, we have two UR students studying in China through this scholarship. They are studying the Chinese language and culture (at Zhejiang University) and international relations (at Shandong University).
