Dear reader in this issue, I’d like to share some resources that could support the next gathering you host. In addition, I’ve found some interesting evidence that points towards the end of open office space design as we know it.

Space 10 redesign

On a recent trip to Copenhagen I stopped by at Space10 — Ikea’s future living lab that aims to create better and more sustainable ways of living. As a research lab, they’ve naturally been experimenting heavily with their own space. Having started out with an open office plan, they’ve now rebuilt the area into a more flexible workspace that’s divided with mobile partitions to increase wellbeing and productivity, as well as accommodate a growing workforce.
You can read more about their office space redesign and why the open office felt too chaotic for the Space10 team, here.

Resources

If you’re a facilitator, community builder or gatherer, you’ll know meetup — the platform for finding and building local communities. As experience experts, they know that a meetup — no matter the format — is only as good as its host and their facilitation skills. With this in mind, meetup created a short video guide with very hands-on tips and tricks that are worth checking out. They apply just as much if you’re thinking about creating your very first format to gather people or if you’ve been building communities for ages.

Want to avoid falling into the safe but boring small talk trap over the next dinner you host or attend? If so, you might want to try the School of Life’s Table-Talk place cards. Come up with better questions over a shared meal and have deeper conversations that are meaningful, entertaining and touching. The pack contains 80 cards with questions like: “What do you worry about in the middle of the night?” or “Which three adjectives capture important things about you?” or, “If you were braver, what would you be doing with your life?” You can get the cards here
