Hey Tigers! Welcome to our 3-Part YouTube Series introduction to the MU Career Center. In this series, we performed skits to give you an idea of what a meeting with one of our Career Specialists would look like. We featured episodes on “Finding a Part-Time Job” and “LinkedIn Profiles” to show you a few of the many services we offer. Like our videos and subscribe to our YouTube channel, then visit us on the lower level of the Student Success Center to check out our services in person!
Career Outcomes Website

The University recently launched a new Career Outcomes website, publishing results from the MU Outcomes Survey from the past two years.  The survey provides insight into the career plans of Mizzou graduates and tells a story of student success. Nine out of ten Mizzou graduates have successful outcomes within 6 months of graduation. The survey additionally provides detailed data on employment, salary, graduate school attendance and geographic location. The University of Missouri follows the NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) standards and protocols

We recommend that faculty and staff bookmark the page as it can be a helpful career advising tool to share with students.  The site includes interactive graphs on the following data points:
  • Career Outcomes: what students are doing after graduation, including: employment, continuing education, military or volunteer service.
  • Top Employers: A list of employers that hire the most MU grads into full-time positions.
  • Top Industries and an Industry Flowchart: Shows the career pathways of graduates from each School/College into various industry and career paths.
  • Top Institutions for Continuing Ed: Indicates the universities where students continue their education.
  • Geographic locale: The interactive map shows the states and cities where our grads reside.
Please note that nearly all of the data points listed above can be filtered by Class Year and School/College!

Lastly, we want to emphasize that the outcomes data is very rich and robust. We know 5,332 outcomes for 6,024 graduates in the Class of 2018 (which includes Summer 2017, Fall 2017, and Spring 2018 graduation cohorts). This Knowledge Rate is significantly higher than many of our peer institutions and demonstrates that Mizzou grads are highly valued and sought after!

If you have any questions about the outcomes data or website, please reach out to Amanda Nell in the MU Career Center: nella@missouri.edu.
Applicant Tracking Systems are on the Rise

By: Amelia Gardiner, Graduate Assistant for Marketing and Programming

Did you know that more than 60% of all companies utilize some type of applicant tracking system? With the rise of smart technology, more and more companies have switched to using applicant tracking systems to streamline the hiring process. Applicant tracking systems operate using specific criteria, such as keywords, to scan applications before a résumé even touches the desk of a hiring manager. So what does this mean for students? It means that having a polished and well-tailored résumé is more important than ever before.

Luckily, here at the MU Career Center, we offer several resources to help students navigate the world of applicant tracking systems. They can take a look at our Guide to Applicant Tracking Systems, come meet with a career specialist to tailor their résumés, or search our resources to learn even more!
