CBS KILKENNY FUN RUN
On a beautiful spring day, April 11th 2019, the CBS Kilkenny school community enjoyed our annual Fun Run in the wonderful surroundings of Castle Park. A huge number of students undertook the timed event at 1.15pm,, and the class groups started shortly thereafter.
Huge thanks to the organising committee, the PE department and the caretaking staff for organising the day, to the Student Council, to the Green Schools Committee and to Mr Downey for organising all the fundraising affort.
Sincere thanks to all of our students and their families who supported the event so generously.
ANNUAL U11 CBS KILKENNY HURLING BLITZ
On Mar 30th 2019, more than 250 young hurlers took part in the annual CBS Kilkenny Blitz at Dicksboro GAA grounds. A great day of competition was enjoyed by all, and a lot of fine hurling and sportsmanship was on display. There to present trophies were former CBS students and Kilkenny senior hurlers, Huw Lawlor, Robbie Fitzpatrick, Paddy Deegan, Tom kenny, Bill Sheehan and Luke Scanlon.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors: Masita, Glanbia, Championship Sliotars, Kilkenny County Board and Dicksboro GAA Club.
JUNIOR MATHS WINNERS
Well done to Oisin, RIchard and Rohan who claimed first, second and third place in the prestigious IMTA Junior Maths final recently hosted in St. Kieran's College. In order to qualify for the final, the boys completed a timed exam in January and qualified along with 23 other finalists from the South Eastern region.
Great achievement boys!
ALL-IRELAND HANDBALL
Well done to Billy Drennan who claimed the Premier U16 Singles Handball All Ireland 4-Wall title for 2019. Fantastic achievement, well done Billy!
CONCERN DEBATING
Our very successful senior Debating Team were narrowly beaten in the All-Ireland Quarter Final of the prestigious Concern competition. They provided us with a great season of top quality debate, discussion and rebuttal. Well done on your achievement, and huge thanks to mentors Mr O'Brien and Ms Maher.
SEACHTAIN NA GAEILGE
In March, the whole school community enjoyed a packed itinerary in celebration of our national langauge and culture. There was "spóirt go leor agus an-craic" for Seachtain na Gaeilge, culminating in Lá Glas. Great work done by the Irish department!
DANCING WITH THE STARS
We are delighted that former student John Edward Nolan was recognised for the brilliant dancer and athlete that he is. This year, John and his celebrity partner, Mairead Ronan, won the prestigious Dancing with the Stars Final.
We also welcomed them to CBS Kilkenny to present prizes to our #unleashthejig winners and to support our advocacy and environmental groups' launch of the Reusable Cup Campaign.
TRADFEST
On March 16th, our very talented trad band and some of our senior choir accompanied KGB in a rousing trad session in the beautiful surroundings of St. Canice's Cathedral. The hugely enjoyable night marked the launch of a big fundraising drive for the new CBS Kilkenny school.
STUDENTS MARCH TO RAISE CLIMATE CHANGE AWARENESS
In March, our Green School Committee, Student Council and Cumann ER Advocacy group represented the CBS Kilkenny student population when they protested in solidarity with students from all over the world regarding the pressing issue of global climate change #studentvoice.
CONCERN AFRICAN VISIT
We are very proud of Ms Evison who has raised more than €100,000 over many years through her involvement in the annual Concern 24hour fast. Her huge commitment has been recognised by Concern who have invited Ms Evison and two students to visit Sierra Leone in July. What an experience awaits!
KILKENNY MUSIC FESTIVAL
Well done to our senior choir who did it again! - First place in the Senior Male Choir category at the Kilkenny Music Festival. Well done to all of our competitors and winners at solo and group level also. Thanks Ms Dowling!.
