From our board chair
Greetings to everybody in the LIA community!

My name is Jane Carter and I am the new chair of the LIA board. I would like to introduce myself to you all. My family and I moved from the UK to France in 2009 and we love this beautiful area! My husband and I are both secondary school teachers and love learning new things. We have two teen-aged daughters and we love to sing and play music together as a family.

I believe that an education based on Christian values is the best foundation that we can offer our children. LIA has a special place in my heart and we are all blessed to have a wonderful team of hard-working, skilled and dedicated staff that make the school an encouraging, nurturing environment where each child is valued and encouraged to do their very best at all times.

I am excited to be part of the LIA family and look forward to seeing the school continue to develop and flourish. God bless and best wishes from Jane Carter

J'aimerais me présenter à vous tous.

Avenir de l’école - The future of the school

The LIA Board is working on the issue of premises and further development of the school.

The project to move to the large chalet belonging to the property next to the IBG turned out to be unsuccessful.  We will remain in the current premises for the time being, whilst other avenues are being considered.

There are currently no concrete options in this geographical area that offer the adequate space and pleasant surroundings required for LIA.

In order to further the development of the school, we are still looking for more spacious premises. We thank you for sharing with us any information that may help in this regard.

Let's be patient in our search for the right location at the right time.

LIA students went to park des Evaux on the 28th September 2018. We left at 09:30 taking the bus. We trained to remember about the basics then we were all allowed to choose what course we wanted to do.

There were 14 courses in total. The 1p & 2p had to go to a smaller & shorter rope-course (they actually had no choice because they were too young & small). The courses were by height of the child except for the race which you had to be 8 years old to do. In that rope course it was basically a race for 1 to 3 people on 3 different placed wires that were exactly the same. Once you finished the race you had to go all the way back to the park.

The younger ones were happy to learn how to do a rope-course and the older ones really enjoyed doing the courses. They also improved their style.

Sortie Accrobranche

TaTout

On Thursdays 15th and 22nd of November, we learned how to protect ourselves from bullying. We had funny role play moments on how to keep safety distance, to ignore bullies but keep them in our field of vision, how to act confident (when we weren’t) and how to reply to a bully. We used an imaginary bin to throw away the bad words people told us.

We were told a story about people being attacked by tigers from behind, and they were fed-up about it, so they put masks on the back of their heads, so the tigers didn’t attack, because they thought the people were looking. That links to reality, because you always have to keep eye contact with your bully, so we played a game about it.

TaTout = tatou (armadillo)
TaTout = atout (advantage)

What Oscar and Quincy liked was the tiger story and the invisible trash can.
Visit to the Museum of Art and History – Geneva

On the 9th of December 2018, the children of 5 to 7P went to visit the Museum of Art and History to learn about Fedinand Hodler. He was a skilled artist who lived between 1853 and 1918. He had walked all the way from Bern to Geneva just to see and learn from the works of Alexandre Callame.

We saw his paintings, sculptures and notebooks. As we were learning about landscapes in art, we observed and reproduced some of his work. Our favourite technique was that of the squares to increase the size of a drawing. Hodler used to copy his small sketches onto cardboard to hang on walls. He often included himself in larger masterpieces. Some of us had a go at drawing portraits of each other in Hodler’s style.
