New call for free Microdata access: MAG
As from the pilot year 2019, the ODISSEI Microdata Access Grant (MAG) will annually provide five researchers working at an ODISSEI participant with free access to CBS Microdata.

Novice researchers in particular are invited to submit their MAG proposals. The grant applies to projects carried out by ODISSEI participants within their own research program, as is the case for first and second flow research and research funded by the European Commission.
The available budget allows for granting free CBS Microdata access to five projects. The budget of € 8,000 per project (maximum) will typically cover a project by two researchers, with a duration of six months and access to approximately ten datasets (see the CBS data catalogue). Proposals must be submitted by 30 April 2019 at the latest. Read more about the MAG.

At the introductory meeting on CBS Microdata (see next item), special attention was paid to the MAG.

Introductory meeting on CBS Microdata and launch of MAG
On Tuesday 19 February, an introductory meeting on the use of CBS Microdata was held at Statistics Netherlands (CBS) in The Hague. At the same meeting, the MAG call was launched to allow researchers free access to the CBS Microdata. Those present found the introductory meeting very useful for researchers who are new to Microdata. ODISSEI and CBS therefore intend to organise meetings of this kind more often.
Want to know more about working with CBS Microdata? On Thursday afternoon March 28th Statistics Netherlands organizes the next Microdata user meeting. This user meeting (in Dutch) is the semi-annual event for researchers and policy-makers to gain further knowledge of, and share their experiences working with, CBS Microdata. This edition's theme is Businesses. All presentations will be in Dutch. Click here for the complete programm and sign up.

ODF-pilot: ‘Effects of spatial contextual characteristics on personal income’
The ODISSEI Data Facility (ODF), in which authorized researchers can securely link CBS data to their own datasets and analyse them on SURFsara's national high-performance computer, is being thoroughly tested by three pilot projects. One of the researchers is Eveline de Zeeuw (NTR), who looks at the underlying causes of differences in the amount of care that people need.
Are increased healthcare costs a consequence of certain physical and psychological characteristics or of personal and cognitive characteristics? Or is there another explanation found in previous research?

In this project, one of the biggest challenges is linking data from the Netherlands Twin Register (NTR) to CBS data.

ODISSEI at University of Groningen
On Thursday 7 March 2019, ODISSEI participant University of Groningen, faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences organized an introductory meeting to ODISSEI. During this afternoon four speakers highlighted different aspects of the network, its developments and the possibilities it offers for researchers.
There were about sixty enthusiastic researchers from five different RUG faculties present. After an introduction on ODISSEI by scientific director Pearl Dykstra, Ruurd Schoonhoven told about the possibilities of CBS Microdata and the ODISSEI Data Facility (ODF). After this, ODF user Eveline de Zeeuw shared her experiences with the digital research infrastructure. Marcel Das spoke about the possibilities of the LISS panel.
