31st Street Bridge Project Begins

DDOT is preparing to replace the structurally deficient, weight-limited 31st Street Bridge over the C&O Canal—during which time the existing historic pier will be removed, restored, and reset, and a new bridge will be built. During the project, pedestrian access over the canal will be maintained at all times with a temporary pedestrian bridge, and pedestrians will be able to cross 31st Street to either side of the canal towpath. 31st Street will be closed to vehicles over the canal, but local access will be maintained to the businesses on either side of the bridge and a vehicle detour around 31st Street will be in place. The contractor expects to begin the street detour and vehicle staging in May and the project is scheduled to finish in summer 2020. Click here for more information on the 31st Street Bridge project, including a construction overview and traffic patterns.

Not to Be a Downer, But...

On May 22, DC HSEMA, Spin Global, and 100 Resilient Cities will be hosting a Disaster Resilience Workshop for local businesses, non-profits and faith-based organizations at the RISE Center (2730 MLK Jr. Avenue SE). The workshop is designed to provide participants with District-specific threat and hazard information, walk them through a self-assessment of their resilience, and help them develop and share best practices for business continuity. Boring Work (That's Really What It's Called)

DC Water is preparing to perform some boring work on Wisconsin Avenue, South Street, and 31st Street below M Street as part of a project to separate the storm sewer and sanitary sewer in part of lower Georgetown. This work is scheduled to occur between April 18 and May 2 and will require some lane closures and parking restrictions on these streets.

Click here for more details on the project, work dates and times, lane closures, parking restrictions, and specific locations for the work. Contact Amanda Zander, Public Outreach and Private Space Implementation Coordinator for DC Water, with questions.
