Principal's Message

Dear EGRMS Families,

Congratulations to the EGRMS Science Olympiad team on their outstanding performance this past Saturday at their Regional Competition.  The team placed 6th overall out of a field of 45 schools.  This performance earned the team the right to compete at the State Competition on April 27th

This Thursday students will attempt to build 1800 “Supper Packs” for Kids’ Food Basket.  There is still time to contribute during the last push for donations.  Meat sticks (0.28 oz serving) and pudding cups are the area of greatest need.  Thank you for supporting this importance cause.

Spring Break starts this Friday, March 29th, and concludes on Friday, April 5th.  School resumes on Monday, April 8th.  I hope your family finds this time restful and rewarding.

Sincerely,
Anthony Morey
Principal

Schram's Shout Out

Dear EGRMS Families:

I am writing to let you know about the spring testing schedule.  Our 8th graders will be taking the PSAT test on Tuesday, April 9.  They will need to bring a scientific calculator and two #2 pencils with them.
For MStep testing, that begins on April 16 and runs through May 24, including make ups days.  The MStep schedule is as follows:

8th grade:  April 16-17 (social studies) and April 23 (science)
7th grade:  April 29-30 (ELA) and May 7-8 (math)
6th grade:  May 1 and 6 (math) and May 14-15 (ELA)

Anything you can do to avoid absences during testing will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a great week!
Shelly

Kids' Food Basket

Dear Parents,

This year, for our Martin Luther King Day, Jr. Day of Service, our students will be making Supper Packs to be distributed through Kids’ Food Basket, a local organization working to combat childhood hunger. Please find more information on Kids’ Food Basket here.  These Supper Packs will provide the children who are serviced through Kids’ Food Basket one meal for one day. We are planning a school-wide drive to collect the necessary ingredients for the Supper Packs, which will be assembled the week before spring break.

Our school-wide collection drive began Thursday, January 31 and ends Thursday, March 28.  All students will be collecting the following items in their BRIDGES classes. Our goal is 50 of each item, so that each Bridges class can assemble at least 50 Supper Packs. Please note items need to be individually pre-packaged.

Items Needed:
Pudding Cups
Fruit Strips
Pretzel or Cheez-It Bag (1.5 oz or smaller)
.28 oz Meat Sticks (two per Supper Pack)

Quart Size Bags
Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
East Grand Rapids Middle School Champions of Diversity Committee

Students are issued “Way to Go” cards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Personal Best by doing the right thing!  As students receive these cards, they are placed in the container located in the Main Office.  Every Friday, names are drawn and announced during the afternoon announcements.  Each student selected, has the opportunity to pick a prize from the prize basket simply as a way to say “Thanks, we appreciate and recognize you!”

Our next drawing will be after spring break!

Three things to do over spring break:

  1. Enjoy your time with family and friends.
  2. Nominate one or more of the outstanding teachers in our district for an Excellence in Teaching Award or the James and Georgia Nicholas Award.
  3. Think about your three-year pledge to Now&Forever. More than 400 families have already pledged $5.47 million to help build the future of our schools. With $930,000 left to raise to meet our goal, we need a shared commitment from all of us to pledge what we can. There won’t be an EGRNOW! fundraising drive this year. Now&Forever is our chance to secure our schools’ tradition of excellence today and for generations to come. To join us in this sustainable, historic effort, visit the Now&Forever page on the Foundation’s website.

East Varsity Hockey Open Skate
The East Varsity Hockey team will be hosting a welcome skate on April 7th at 7:30-8:30 @ Patterson Ice Center. Cost is $20.

All current 8th graders interested in playing spring high school hockey are encouraged to come out and skate. Note this is not a try out as we plan to take everyone for the spring team. The only requirement is that you played hockey last season.

If you’re interested in playing please email me. The league will start April 14th and be played every Sunday.  Cost will be determined once we have a final number of participants for the league. We hope to carry as many players for spring season as possible to keep cost down.  If you have any question please feel free to email me or give me a call.
