Bynum Bridge Fest Logo with URL and Dates April 20 from 10-5

Bridge Fest Returns April 20

Mark your calendars! Bynum Bridge Fest is back and will feature a one-day art market on the pedestrian bridge over the Haw River on Saturday, April 20. Each year the festival is hosted by the volunteer organization be PhilARThropy which was founded in 2015 by two members of the Chatham Artists Guild (CAG), husband and wife team Craig and Amanda Greiner. The festival also features a number of CAG members as artists on the bridge. This year, the festival will feature 42 artists, 5 of which are current CAG members:

  • Selden Durgom Lamoureaux
  • Heather Gerni
  • Rusty Sieck
  • Andrew Wilson
  • Jeff Clark

Roberta Marasca along with several other past Guild members will also be participating..

be PhilARThropy focuses on supporting local artists by providing an outlet to feature their work, but we also believe that support for arts begins with art education and includes contributions to society through the arts—ART GIVING BACK. As in 2018, the event will feature an Academic Art Exhibition showcasing both students and teachers from Chatham County high schools, offering both a student art award as well as one award to boost the art program at an academic institution.

And what about ART GIVING BACK? This year, we will once again be using our connection to the arts community to support the local organization Friends of the Lower Haw River State Natural Area. Through our partnership, we will raise funds at the event to support the conservation and enhancement of the Lower Haw River State Natural Area.

To learn more about the event, or to apply to be an artists on the bridge (by April 1), visit Bynum Bridge Fest, or look for our official event announcement on Facebook

We hope to see you on the bridge!

CLASSES,  WORKSHOPS

Intuitive Painting Workshops
with Heather Gerni

Learn intuitive painting in a non-judgmental and playful environment where students can focus on personal expression and their own creative journey. It's perfect for both beginners and experienced artists.

What is intuitive painting??? It's a unique approach to painting focused more on the process of creating and allowing the work to naturally evolve. Neither the composition nor subject matter is planned. With guidance from the instructor, students paint many layers to create an abstract under-painting, and out of this chaos they find imagery for their composition. A natural evolution is allowed with each layer informing the next. The chaos is then simplified to create a unified painting. The process of intuitive painting helps with letting go of expectations, experimenting, and allowing our creativity and artistic style to unfold organically.

Intermediate Watercolor Painting
6-class series with Beth Bale

Watercolor painter Beth Bale will lead 6 classes for intermediate watercolor painters, starting in April.  These classes are for artists with experience in watercolor painting, who are comfortable with basic watercolor techniques and want to improve their skills and knowledge of watercolor painting.  Beth will challenge students to expand their experiences with watercolor, try new things, pay attention to issues such as composition, values and perspective as well as using multiple watercolor techniques in each painting.  As always, Beth will demo in each class and guide students in using the techniques discussed to create paintings of their chosen topic/photo.  Students may work on any subjects they wish, but each class will focus on a topic or topics and Beth will guide students wishing to work on this topic, but always provides individual help and guidance throughout class.  Each class will focus on a technique or subject, such as texture, light, complimentary color use, etc.  Beth is a fun and encouraging teacher, who wants to bring out the most creative part of each student and help them gain confidence in their art.

Students will be provided with the materials list for the classes so they can come prepared for class and can work on paintings between classes.

  • Dates: Sundays, April 28, May 12 & 26, June 9 & 30, July 14
  • Time: 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm
  • Cost: $120 for the series of 6 classes

Beth is a member of Chatham Artists Guild, Sanford Brush and Palette Club, and a signature member of the Watercolor Society of NC.  She has won awards from WSNC, Chatham Artists Guild and Sanford Brush and Palette Club for her watercolor paintings of nature and animals in a colorful and loose style, with focus on light and shadow.  Beth will teach students to paint with freedom and fun, with a no-pressure style that helps students find their own styles and preferences.  See her work at The Joyful Jewel, on her website at www.bethbale.com, on Facebook at Beth Bale Fine Art or on Instagram at bethbalefineart.  Contact her at bethbale@windstream.net with any questions.
