This app is a must have for new or would be investors!

Peace Family,

One of the most common questions I get from clients, friends, and colleagues is “What is the quickest/easiest way for me to start investing?”

This question captures a very common mindset and  culture around wealth building that I feel inclined to comment on. I promise, I’ll provide an answer after!

Firstly, wealth building is typically a slow/gradual process that typically requires three major things:

  1. income
  2. time (in years of accrual, not necessarily out of each day)
  3. consistency
I have to state this to set the expectations and context of the app I’m recommending below. It combines all of the criteria above to make investing MUCH less of a hassle than it was a decade ago.

Another important note is that folks still need to have a budget and a decent amount of risk tolerance or else they will quickly see the “consistency” of their investing go out the window.

So if you’ve made it this far, meet my ragtag criteria, and heeded my warnings about budgeting, the app I recommend to start investing today is...

Acorns easily links to your existing bank account and provides an excellent entry point into the world of investing.

It uses the equivalent of loose change to help you invest in a diversified portfolio that more or less mirrors major stock market indexes. There’s even a retirement plan that could be useful for freelancers or entrepreneurs.

Like most robo advisors, they are fairly conservative in their approach to investing. They tend to mitigate risk by using bonds and lower risk methods in the blend they offer users.

Still, an annual yield of let’s say  4% is better than none!

Users can have automatic debits come out of their account to consistently invest, or they have the option of “round ups,” which round purchases up to the nearest dollar amount and invests the remainder (like loose change in a piggy bank).

It also gauges where your investment and balance will be over time to give you decent insight on your future.
