The many shades of co-produced evidence
Co-production of evidence is a process by which evidence is generated by the equal and reciprocal participation in research activities by academic and other partners. This briefing paper by the Carnegie UK Trust teases out the challenges and opportunities around co-producing evidence appropriate to participatory social policy and practice, and increasing people’s control within communities and services. Read the report

Local people and local places exhibition

There's still chance to see the Local Area Coordination touring photography exhibition in York which was produced as part of their formative and early outcomes evaluation.

A reportage photographer – Michael A. Wood – was commissioned to ‘walk alongside’ Local Area Coordinators in the following areas: Tang Hall, Westfield, Huntington and New Earswick. The free photography exhibition, which showcases the images captured, is touring York until April 2019. The exhibition is designed to celebrate people and place within each locality and has already been at West Offices and Folk Hall. Over the next month the exhibition will tour the following places:
  • 25 March – 5 April: Centre@Burnholme, Mossdale Avenue, York
  • 8 April – 23 April: Acomb Library, Front Street, York

The evaluation is being produced in collaboration with the City of York Council, Professor Neil Lunt and Dr Laura Bainbridge of the University of York to contribute to the evidence base locally, nationally and internationally. The evaluation is due to be published shortly.

From Singapore to Swansea...and beyond!

Earlier in the month Ralph Broad of Inclusive Neighbourhoods and health leaders from Singapore met with Local Area Coordination teams in Swansea and Wiltshire, along with evaluation partners. The visit was all about sharing learning and experiences about Local Area Coordination from here in the UK and from Singapore. Ralph will be producing a report about the visit so we'll be sharing more information soon, but in the meantime, here's a wonderful quote to whet your appetite....

We're about what is strong, not about what is LACking

Nick Sinclair, Director of the Local Area Coordination Network, has written a thought-provoking blog about the language we use. In his blog he challenges the use of abbreviations such as 'NEET' (young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training) and 'LAC' (Local Area Coordination in this case but it is also used for Looked After Children).

Nick suggests that 'NEET' sounds like ‘neat’ meaning tidy or well-ordered, and in American-English, another word for ‘great’. In reflecting on what he witnessed in previous job roles he found there was rarely anything neat about the relentless struggle of accessing the resources required to flourish in a world of ever reducing opportunity.

And he says that in terms of 'LAC' it sounds like ‘lack’ which obviously means a deficiency or an absence of strength - I think we can all agree Local Area Coordination is about neither of those things! Read the full blog

Making it Real webinar

Making it Real is a framework for how to do personalised care and support. It’s for people working in health, adult social care, housing, and for people who access services.

It is an easy to use, jargon-free set of personalised principles that focus on what matters to people. Making it Real is built around six themes:

The themes describe what good looks like from an individual’s perspective and what organisations should be doing to live up to those expectations. It supports co-production between people, commissioners and providers.

Think Local Act Personal are offering a free webinar to support organisations to sign up and practice the principles of Making it Real. The webinar will help you understand what Making it Real is, and what the benefits are to your organisation and the people you care for and support. During the webinar you will hear from those instrumental in co-producing it about how it is being used to drive forward transformation and improvement, and find out how straightforward it is to get involved and start using it.

  • When is the webinar? 27th March 2019 13:00-14:00
  • How much does it cost to join the webinar? It's FREE!
