Cilantro - There are three methods for preserving your cilantro: 1) Place in a jar on the counter with water, 2) Place in a jar in the refrigerator with a bag over the leaves, or 3) Trim the stems and place in an airtight container in the refrigerator. With proper storage, it should keep for up to two weeks.
Tomatoes - Depending on ripeness, tomatoes can stay for up to two weeks on the counter. To hasten ripeness, place in a paper bag with an apple.
Kale - Wash kale dry and store your kale in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The less moisture possible is best.
Kai Choi - Store in the vegetable crisper of the refrigerator for up to 4 days or more.
Taro Root - They should keep for about a week. Another method is to partly boil the root, slice thinly and then dry in the sun. Taro root will keep for several months when stored in a tightly sealed jar, tin or plastic bag. It will also keep for a long time if it is peeled, put in clean containers or plastic bags and frozen.
Corn - Place ears of corn in your refrigerator as soon as possible. Leave the husk on, if possible, and let the corn sit in the fridge uncovered. Keep the temperature at or below 40 degrees to reduce the amount of natural sugars in the corn from turning to starch at higher temperatures.
Bananas - Ripen the bananas in a fruit bowl at room temperature; storing them next to other fruit such as tomatoes will speed the process. Once ripe, the bananas can be stored in the fridge. You may notice their skin will turn black but the meat should be good for a few more days.
Onion - Store in a cool and dry area that is not exposed to light. Uncut onions should last two to three months on the shelf. Once cut, cover exposed flesh with plastic wrap and store in the fridge.
Lettuce - Lettuce is best stored in a dry package and kept in the crisp drawer for five to seven days.
Watermelon Radish - Keep the roots of your radish unwashed and in the fridge until you're ready to use them. They'll last one to two weeks in a sealed plastic bag.
