April 2019          Oakwood Farmers’ Market

This Saturday 20th April, 9-12:30pm at Oakwood Clock for food, coffee, grocery shopping and a taste of community spirit at Oakwood Farmers' Market.

We would like say a very big thank you to Kari Walker for her sterling work in developing and managing the Reap e bulletin

The market runs once a month and our Regular stall holders offer:

  • meat joints, burgers, chicken, bacon, pies and highland beef
  • fresh fish, eggs, cheese, butter and rape seed oil and honey
  • plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables.
  • soups, sauces and fruit juice.
  • bread, patisseries and pastries
  • Italian home made donuts and cannelloni
  • gluten free pastries
  • fresh parathas, chutneys, pakora, samosas
  • fresh coffee to drink now and to take away

Remember everything is produced locally and is fresh, organic, seasonal and/or free range. Let us know if there is a stall you'd like to see.

Seasonal Larder
Handmade preserves made in Yorkshire from fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs grown in Yorkshire.


Bloom Bakers
We are a bakery based in North Leeds, specialising in (bespoke) biscuits, fruit pies & cakes. Mostly baked to our Northern European heritage.


Primalcut Sausages
Award winning artisan gluten-free, all-natural Proper Sausage &Bacon.
Entirely hand-made in their home kitchen in Ilkley.



Seeds to Sow
We provide high quality seeds for both the experienced and novice gardener. 



Plate 2 Plate Compost - Food waste collections and top notch compost


Feedback on Twitter or Facebook about all our stalls to help us decide which stalls the community wants.
This is a community run market, not for profit.


REAP Gardening Group  will be at the Farmers’ Market as usual. We’ll be planting our potatoes in the Edible Bed. Come over for a chat and join our growing community. 
Dates for your diary:
18 May at Oakwood Farmers Market is our annual spring plant swap. Pot up your spare seedlings, cuttings and divisions and bring them along to swap with your neighbours for something new. 

 

Roundhay Open Gardens Sunday 23 June 12-5pm. . 
Once again we are running this very popular event with some new gardens to see this year. Put the date in your diary and make it an afternoon out with family and friends.


   
















Community Stalls

Pick up your REAP lidded reusable bamboo cup-yours for the subsidised price of £3.00


Nick Claiden’s sculpture of Oakwood Farmers' Market will be displayed on the REAP stall. There is still lots of time to put in your sealed bid. Half the proceeds of will be going to a charity of REAP’s choice.

 Try out Chapel Allerton’s new Refilling Station at 176 Harrogate Road. Take your own containers, bottles, bags and boxes to restock a large range of household/food items and enjoy a more environmentally friendly shopping experience. Highly recommended!

The Open Studios is a great event and is looking good for this year. Leaflets will be available at the Farmers' Market.

Local Cinema*
Oakwood has a not-for-profit cinema run by volunteers. Selling great ice cream, popcorn and refreshments at affordable prices. There’s also a fully licensed bar and you can take your drinks into the auditorium.

Once again, thanks to the Friends of Roundhay Park for this monthly round-up of events in the park.
  • Free Tennis Coaching (from age 5 to adults), tennis courts, last Saturday in the month, 2-4 pm.
  • Leeds Rowing Club, Waterloo Lake, weekend mornings
  • British Military Fitness Training, meet at Princes Avenue Car Park, Monday and Wednesday evenings, Friday and Saturday mornings
  • outFIT Fitness Training, meet at the Lakeside Cafe Car Park, Monday and Wednesday evenings, Saturday mornings
  • Roundhay parkrun (free, timed 5 Km, on Saturdays at 9 am), meet at the bandstand at the top of the Carriage Ride from 8:45. To be timed, register online at parkrun.org.uk
  • Carnegie Brazilian Soccer Schools, on Soldiers' Field between Old Park Road and Princes Avenue, Saturday mornings
  • Roundhay Runners, meet at Princes Avenue car park, Thursday evenings at 7pm
  • Leeds Cycling Campaign - All the rides are sociable and supportive, aiming to get folk into cycling or helping people return to cycling. Easy and easy plus rides on Saturday morning 14-22 miles. Easy plus to Intermediate rides on Tuesday mornings 22-35 miles. Intermediate to Long rides on Sundays  35-80 miles.
