This word keeps finding me. “It encompasses a refusal to be petty, a willingness to face danger and a virtue of being great in mind and heart.” Perhaps it’s trying to find you, too?

Yesterday was the most beautiful day ever. I had the opportunity to offer both my first Clinical Hypnotherapy session and my first Yoga 🧘‍♀️ practice outside of the classrooms. Both were offerings to humans I love deeply and although I was serving them, the rewards were greatest for me. It is a gift to support, be of service and bring light to those around us. I feel beyond grateful to be in a place where I am capable of doing so. Big hugs and ripples of kindness coming your way today!! Please pass it on if you can...🤗🌈🦋🤸‍♂️🦄❤️

It was actually my first time running with a group, and I just loved it. Your ELM team was so inspiring. Crystal and Sarah V absolutely blew my mind with their energy and enthusiasm. Chris, too. It was SUCH a pleasure to get to know people while running the gorgeous trails. I could go on and on…"

New Zealand Trip Report - Steven Basu
I live on a small island that is part of Spain but is just off the coast of Morocco in the Atlantic Ocean. I visited New Zealand in 2015 to celebrate my 50th birthday and had a wonderful trip despite slipping a disc whilst there. The next 3 years were tough trying to recover from back surgery, chronic pain and depression, and a marriage break up. I was looking for motivation to get running again and to get travelling again. When I came across the Team ELM trip to New Zealand..to run a trail marathon...in the very town where my disc slipped...serendipity. So I signed up without thinking too much about how a training plan from the other side of the world would work.

I am happy to be able to report that the training went as smoothly as a 6 month marathon training plan can go. That is to say that there were hiccups and set backs, all normal in this kind of training, but none of them because of me being in Lanzarote and Sarah in Canada. After an initial contact via telephone and an information sheet to see where I was starting from, the training plan arrived via Training Peaks. Every day I got an email from the app telling me what my training was for that day with notes from Sarah as to what aspects I should be concentrating on. At the end of each session, I loaded in my comments and sensations. Accompanying this were extensive "homework" materials to read and take on board covering everything from nutrition, gear, recovery, race planning etc. Everything was very simple, easy to adjust to real life if sessions needed to be moved around and any queries, worries or questions were swiftly answered via email. December and January were difficult months for me due to work commitments and problems my daughter was having, however, Sarah was very good at reorganizing the training schedule and keeping a positive slant on progress.

Planning the trip to New Zealand again was very straight forward. There were a number of activity options that we could opt for and the itinarary was very clear. Having the whole week planned for you...accomodation, airport pick up, activities, meals, guides, race schedule etc..just takes so much stress out of undertaking a trip of this magnitude, especially if you don't have much experience in planning. I traveled to New Zealand on my own so it's easy to imagine how much work investigating I was saved.

The week previous to the Motatapu race was spent with the group and our guide Russ. The highlight of the trip for me, apart from crossing the finish line of course, was spending time with a group of really great people. I can honestly say that a more inspiring bunch of people would be difficult to find. Everyone had their story and reason for being there and we had great fun and some awesome meals.......I'm going to dream of breakfasts at Halo and Bespoke Kitchen for the rest of my life! The guide Russ who looked after our every whim during the week was amazing....nothing phased him, he managed to fit all our differing requests into the daily schedule, answered all our questions, came up with suggestions on the fly, gave really good tips and advice for our individual journeys after the race and always, always with a happy smile on his face. Russ...you are a star!!!!

And the Motatapu? I have run many mountain and trail marathons and ultras in Europe including the OCC at UTMB and the Motatapu was a truly unique experience. The terrain for starters was quite different to what I was used to being grassy, tussocky tracks as opposed to rocky paths. And having to cross about 30 icy (the water came from glacial flow) streams with water sometimes up to knee level is something I have never had to do. The scenery was spectacular, and I would have loved to have been up on the ridges as opposed to down in the valley. A beautiful thing about being in a group was having someone to talk to on the long bus ride to the start as Joanne was also doing the marathon (her first...AWESOME!!!) And an even better thing was coming across Niki, who was doing the 15km race, about 400mfrom the finish so we were able to finish together. An experience shared truly is wonderful.

What more can I say? The whole Team ELM New Zealand adventure from start to finish was an uplifting and enriching experience that lived up to and fulfilled my expectations and hopes going into it. I found the motivation to run and travel that I had been looking for, I had a great holiday in New Zealand, I finished a marathon 3 years after back surgery and I met some great people. What more can you ask for? Thanks to Sarah, to Russ and to all of the group for accepting me as an honorary Van Isle guy for a week. Love you all.
