Last Month

With longer days and higher temperatures March rolled us properly into the 2019 spring season. Many opportunities were available to get out and active with our volunteer groups and April looks to hold more of the same.

Our March chapter meeting gave us a chance to get pumped about the upcoming Fly Fishing Film Tour event with a re-showing of the 2018 F3T. Thanks to our good friends at  Kulshan Brewing it was a night of awesome fly fishing films and delicious beers hosted by our very own North Sound Veterans Service Partnership.

Big Thanks to Kulshan Brewing and the volunteers that made this event possible.

Coming Up

Once again, in conjunction with The Confluence Fly Shop, North Sound Trout Unlimited will help host our local showing of the F3T! Check out the trailers for this years submissions here: https://flyfilmtour.com/watch-trailers/

Tickets will be available at The Confluence Fly Shop, at the Lincoln Theatre, Mount Vernon WA box office, and online. More details to come (including tickets available through the link in the event).

This event will take place in lieu of our regular chapter meeting in April, so come out and enjoy good company and some awesome short films!

Doors open at 6.
Show starts at 7.

We host our best raffle of the year at this event, and you will not want to miss out!
Join Bristol Bay fishermen and stakeholders at K2 Friday, April 12th from 5-9pm to make your voice heard against the proposed Pebble Mine.

We have ONLY until May 30th to submit public comments to the Army Corps of Engineers on their Draft Environmental Impact Statement, and we ask you to sign on to protect Bristol Bay, its salmon, its environment, its jobs, its fishermen, its culture and its people.

Join us for FisherPoetry by
Maggie Bursch, a short film preview of Mark Titus's "The Wild" and more.

$1 of every pint sold at K2 during the event goes to
Commercial Fishermen for Bristol Bay, who are working avidly to protect their fishery and their home. Hope to see you there!

Consider this your save the date! More details to come very soon, including a link to reserve your spot!

From Our Committees

Women's Initiative
Thank you to everyone who joined us and Strength of The Tides for Wild Womxn Week to celebrate International Women's Day!
There were so many good questions tossed around and the discussion on what it takes to be a woman on the water was inspiring.

NSWOTF will be hosting a special women-specific raffle at The Fly Fishing Film Tour this year! We have raffle prizes from Costa, Patagonia, and more - all companies who support gender equality in fly fishing by making quality products catered towards women.

For more updates on what we're up to, head over to the North Sound Women on the Fly Facebook page. You can also email us any time at northsoundwotf@gmail.com. We'll get you on the email list or answer any questions you have about getting involved.

Local Conservation News

Our friends at American Rivers are entering the final push for Puget Sound Acquisition and Restoration Program (PSAR) funding for the Middle Fork Nooksack River Fish Passage Project and could use our support.

If you remember back to January of this year April McEwen of American Rivers spoke to our chapter about this very project and how close this shovel ready project is to coming to fruition.

Enjoy the short video attached and see what we have at stake.

Volunteer Opportunities

In the coming months with the prospect of nice weather on the horizon there are many chances to get involved and help restore stream side habitat. The Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA) and North Sound Trout Unlimited (NSTU) would love to see you out there on Saturdays from 9AM to 12PM!

All you need is weather appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes and everything else will be provided.

Trash Fish

Why: Fish need clean water and riparian zones to thrive. Trash Fish is our ongoing attempt to make our fisheries a little more productive and prettier. It is a simple concept, we pick up trash then we fish.

When: Sunday, April 21st @ 10:00am

Where: Cook Rd. Park & Ride and carpool to location - 9501 Old Hwy 99 North Rd, Burlington, WA 98233

What do I need to bring? NSTU will provide all supplies necessary for the Trash portion of the event. Just bring your fishing gear and any snacks/drinks you want for the day.

Please contact Brandon Sly for more info or to signup. Thanks!
