First At-Scale Impact investment fund for the Amazon focusing on biodiversity conservation gets Presidential buy-in
USAID Administrator, Mark Green, and the Brazilian Secretary of the Office of International Relations, Roberto Castelo Branco, signed a Letter of Intent to work towards the launch of the fund that will  seek to leverage $100 million in private investments over a 10 year period to finance hard-to-reach, high-risk sectors with the potential to create successful and scalable impact businesses aligning conservation of forests and biodiversity. 
The Partnership Platform for the Amazon (PPA) Releases First Annual Report
One important result was the “First Forum for Impact Investments and Sustainable Businesses in the Amazon,” an event that culminated in investments of over R$1,000,000 into the growth of four Amazon start-ups and sustainable businesses and the selection of 15 enterprises for PPA’s Acceleration Program.
Innovation tools used in PCAB are introduced to indigenous people in Ecuador
The experience of using Google Earth and Open Data Kit (ODK) to map resources and their traditional territories in the Brazilian Amazon is now being transferred to the Ecuadorian Amazon.

UNI Project launched at SXSW and Quilombola Leader Brings Audience to their Feet in Global Event
UNI (you and I), is a project that aims to create a digital environment to connect the  people who live in the Amazon with each other and with the world.

The USAID Biodiversity Integration Case Study Competition is now open!
USAID’s Office of Forestry and Biodiversity has announced a case study competition on the examples of biodiversity integration from across the agency’s portfolio. 
PCAB supports course to improve management for community-based forest management
The first module of a management course aimed at improving organizational skills of six community associations and two cooperatives of the Extractive Reserve Verde para Sempre, in Pará state, was carried out in March with 40 participants.
Research maps culture and language of indigenous people in Pauiní, Amazonas state
The Apurinã e Jamamadi Indigenous People Organization (OPIAJ) coordinated a research effort to evaluate the Maipure-Aruak language, spoken in the Medio Purus region of the Amazonas state.
RECENT AND UPCOMING EVENTS
18- 19 February, Candeias do Jamari (Rondônia) - Meeting of the “Açai Initiative” - network that seeks to strengthen the açai berry value chain based on the community organizations on conservation units and indigenous lands - to discuss planning and implementation. 19 March, Manaus – The Partnership Platform for the Amazon (PPA) General Assembly was held to discuss 2018 results and the work plan for 2019/ 2020.

18 May , Rio de Janeiro - International Conference on Interpretation - Registrations are now open. The event is hosted by NAI – National Association for Interpretation (US), in partnership with the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and the US Forest Service (USFS). This will be the first conference in South America. It is a result of the strong support of the PCAB.

29 September –  5 October , Curitiba - XXV IUFRO World Congress 2019 - "Forest Research and Cooperation for Sustainable Development"
For the first time Latin America will host the World Congress of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO). It will be organized and coordinated by the Brazilian Forest Service (SFB) and EMBRAPA. Approximately three thousand participants are expected at the event, which will discuss various aspects related to forest research. The Congress will be a great opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge on technological innovations, as well as updates on the latest research findings and trends for the future of forestry and forest research in all areas of the world.
