UR CTSI Town Hall: April 23, 4 - 5 pmThe UR CTSI is due to renew a main source of funding - the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) - and we need the research community's input to shape our proposal and our future. UR CTSI Co-Directors Nancy Bennett, M.D., and Martin Zand, M.D., Ph.D., will provide a brief overview of the UR CTSI's proposed plan and will seek community feedback on which of our programs are most valued and what future programs or initiatives would be most beneficial.

Date: Tuesday, April 23
Time: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Location: Class of '62 Auditorium, G-9425

Webinar: NEW RBA Tools

This webinar will provide an overview of the new Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) tools designed to assist in the development of Turn-the-Curve plans. The language has been streamlined and includes examples that can be used as guides for your work. Register for the webinar.
Date: Monday, April 8

Implications of the European Union’s New General Data Protection Regulation

This seminar, hosted by the Office of Human Subjects Protection will feature Kathleen Tranelli, privacy officer at the University of Rochester Medical Center, and Mark Wright, senior counsel at the University of Rochester. They will discuss how this topic can assist those whose research involves data, subjects, collaborators, sponsors or vendors in the European Union.
Date: Thursday, April 11
Time: 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Location: Helen Wood Hall Auditorium 1W-304

Environmental Health Sciences Pilot Project Funds

The Environmental Health Sciences Center (EHSC) is offering one year of funding up to $30,000 for pilot projects relevant to the EHSC's theme: environmental agents as modulators of human disease and dysfunction. Proposed projects should investigate developmental origins of disease at any stage of the life cycle as well as interventions for mitigating such effects. Applicants are encouraged to use emerging technologies (CRISPR, Next Generation or Single Cell RNA sequencing, Big Data Initiatives) and use the unique core facilities of the EHSC. Applicants must hold a tenure-track faculty position and applications from new investigators collaborating with existing EHSC faculty are encouraged. Initial applications are due by Wednesday, May 1.

For additional information, contact Deborah Cory-Slechta,  Pat Noonan-Sullivan or go to the EHSC website.

Project Funding for Synergy Paper

Synergy Papers, translational research publications that involve multiple research hubs across the Clinical and Translational Science Awards Program network, are designed to focus on substantial challenges in clinical and translational science, address gaps in research and convene new, innovative writing teams.

Collaborative teams are invited to apply for funding from the UR CTSI Center for Leading Innovation and Collaboration (CLIC) for a paper that focuses on either:
  • A new approach to a significant translational science process or method roadblock and how to address this challenge to advance translational science.
  • A content/knowledge review of a pressing translational science topic across several stages of the translational continuum, identifying gaps and approaches to move the field forward that would also include a section on relevant process gaps.
All application requirements are on the CLIC website. Apply by Wednesday, May 15.

Un-Meeting: Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence Applications in
Translational Science

This Un-Meeting, hosted by UR CTSI, will focus on the development, enhancement, standardization and regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning approaches at all stages of the translational science spectrum.

Through the unique, attendee-driven Un-Meeting format, the intent is to foster new collaborations and ideas, advance research and explore innovative approaches for technology in translational science.
Register by Monday, May 13. Register now!

Date: Saturday, June 1
Time: 8:00 am – 3:00 pm
Location: Saunders Research Building

Emergency Department
Research Associate Program

The Emergency Department Research Associate (EDRA) Program is a resource available to investigators who wish to access the more than 110,000 patients seen in the Strong Memorial Hospital Emergency Department each year. The program utilizes well-trained University of Rochester undergraduate students to screen and enroll patients in the emergency department every day between 8:00 am and midnight.

Now entering its 22nd year, the program has successfully screened and consented thousands of patients into dozens of protocols of varying type and complexity. Operating under approval of the Rochester Subjects Review Board, the EDRA employs a dedicated staff and robust quality assurance/improvement processes.

For more information or to schedule a free consultation, email EDRA supervisor Paige Gloster or call 275-5952.

Miner Library Shares Preprint Resources

In academic publishing, a preprint is a version of a scholarly or scientific paper that precedes formal peer review and publication in a peer-reviewed academic or scientific journal. The preprint may be available for free before and/or after a paper is published in a journal.

To find these resources on the Miner Library website, select the Preprints tab, which will show a list of preprint servers, document preparation tools and more.
