Animal Medical Center of Seattle Spring Newsletter

Animal Medical Center of Seattle is dedicated to the needs of our veterinary community and our clients.

Animal Medical Center of Seattle is a privately owned, specialty and emergency veterinary hospital. Our goal is to assist our veterinary community in the treatment of patients, when advanced medicine, diagnosis or emergency care is required. We work closely with referring veterinarians to assess the pet’s needs and provide specialized treatment, when necessary.

We value the relationships we have with our referral veterinarians and recognize the vital role they play in the patient’s treatment and final outcome. Our top priority is working with a pet’s primary veterinarian and family to provide excellent, coordinated and compassionate medicine.

Animal Medical Center of Seattle understands the importance of the relationship between clients and their primary veterinarians. After treatment at our hospital, pets will return to the care of their regular veterinarian for continued medical needs.

Krystal Harris, DVM, MS

In Oncology, we not only offer a wide array of state-of-the-art diagnostics and chemotherapy, but we also truly believe in the quality of life of our patients and strive to make them as comfortable as possible.

We take a compassionate approach to treatment, providing clients with all options, from aggressive to palliative care, and offer many interventional oncology options for treatment. We also firmly believe that just because we can, doesn't mean we should, as chemotherapy may not be the right decision in all cases.

We're Moving this Fall!

The Animal Medical Center of Seattle announced in March that we will be moving to a new location in the fall of 2019 to accommodate our growth. We also revealed our new logo in coordination with the move and our 10-year anniversary. This move will allow us to continue to grow and offer our referral community even more specialty services in our new, state-of-the-art facility.

We would like to reiterate that AMCS remains privately owned and will continue to employ and recruit amazing doctors and staff committed to providing the highest level of service, compassion and care. We will make sure to keep you updated once we have a firm move-in date for the new hospital in Shoreline, which is only a mile and a half north of our current location.

Similar to the other veterinary specialties, an emergency and critical care diplomate completes a residency program (which is typically a minimum of three additional years) of intense training in emergency, surgery and critical care. Emergency and critical care specialists are trained in the most up-to-date techniques for diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening disease processes in an emergency, and for the critical time while the animal is recovering.

The following is a sampling of the types of care that Dr. Chih can provide for your patients:
  • Respiratory distress/Mechanical ventilation
  • Wound management
  • Blood component therapy
  • Post-operative critical care
  • Anti-coagulation monitoring
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Continuous EKG
  • Advanced fluid therapy
  • Trauma patients (vehicular trauma, etc)
  • Animals that are having trouble urinating, or are not producing urine
  • Dogs and cats that need specialized nutritional support because they are unwilling or unable to eat on their own
  • Animals with life-threatening neurologic disease such as coma or severe seizures that are not responding to medications
Annie Chih, DVM, DACVECC is available Thursday's through Saturday's and every other Wednesday and is more than happy to consult with you if you have a question.

The internal medicine service at Animal Medical Center of Seattle uses laser therapy in treating some of our chronic inflammatory condition cases.

The first time we used our laser was on the recovery of a patient that was failing treatments for Inflammatory bowel disease and protein-losing nephropathy. We decided to add laser therapy to treat him and he steadily improved and started gaining weight. Since this time we have incorporated laser treatment instead of a rescue protocol and are having great success in certain cases.

One of our current patients receiving laser treatments for the treatment of Protein Losing Enteropathy is no longer pacing at night and her stools are more formed.

If you have any questions on this treatment modality or have a case which you think might be a candidate, please feel free to contact our Internal Medicine service!
