PennDot Transportation Survey

The public comment period is open for the 2019 Transportation Performance Report, featuring ratings of state efforts in transportation safety, mobility, system preservation & accountability. The report is the 1st step in the PennDot planning process. 
 

Legislation Co-Sponsor Memos

There are two co-sponsor memos we are tracking at this time The first one is from Rep. Martina White. This bill is similar to the one that was introduced in the previous session regarding two man crew requirements. You can find more information on the memo HERE.

The second memo that has been circulated is a bill that would increase the penalties for blocking railroad crossings. This memo is being circulated by Rep. Steve Barrar. More information on this memo can be found HERE.
 

KSRRA Rail Day on the Hill | April 30, 2019

We are pleased to report that meetings have been scheduled with Senate President Pro Tempore, Joe Scarnati; Transportation Committee Chairs, Senator Kim Ward and Senator John Sabatina; and new House Transportation Committee Chairs, Rep. Tim Hennesey and Rep. Mike Carroll. We have also added a meeting with House Speaker Mike Turzai’s office. This is a great opportunity to meet with key leaders of the PA Legislature.

We will be meeting in the Capitol rotunda at 9 a.m. Our first meetings will start at 9:30 a.m. and our last meeting is scheduled at 3 p.m. There will be 30 meetings split among four groups of KSRRA members. If you have not already done so, please RSVP to Justin at justin@longnyquist.com.

U.S. Class Is employed 145,800 people in mid-February, down 0.52 percent compared with mid-January's level, but up 0.68 percent compared with February 2018's count, according to Surface Transportation Board (STB) data.

On a month-over-month basis, all but one employment category — maintenance of way and structures — posted decreases. The executives, officials and staff assistants declined 0.56 percent to 8,127 employees; professional and administrative, down 0.31 percent to 11,696; maintenance of equipment and stores, down 0.51 percent to 26,981; transportation (other than train and engine), down 0.22 percent to 5,569; and transportation (train and engine), down 1.11 percent to 61,848.

The maintenance of way and structures category ticked up 0.55 percent to 31,579 employees.
On a year-over-year basis, employment levels increased in two categories: maintenance of equipment and stores rose 0.88 percent; and transportation (train and engine) climbed 3.34 percent.

Categories that reflected year-over-year decreases were executives, officials and staff assistants, down 2.62 percent; professional and administrative, down 2.92 percent; maintenance of way and structures, down 2.04 percent; and transportation (other than train and engine), down 0.39 percent.
