Spruce For Salmon
Did you know that small spruce trees make great habitat for juvenile salmon? Kenai Soil & Water Conservation District is part of a local-state-federal partnership that will take spruce trees harvested to reduce wildfire risk and provide them to private property owners for use in streambank protection projects starting April 2019.  If you are clearing forested land, the trees you don’t want may be put to good use protecting salmon habitat. The Kenai River Center serves as the clearinghouse to connect interested landowners. Call River Center Manager Tom Dearlove at (907) 714-2462.
