Mahi ō te marama
Where to start.... after the Sprint Nationals we hit the ground running. The Takapuna Beach Cup is a huge international race for us and we pride ourselves on delivering a great event to our international and local manuhiri. Special shout out to Michelle Mclean for all her awesome work leading up to and at the event!  Following  on from that we immersed ourselves in the lead up to the Secondary School Nationals which is always a highlight for us. Finally we wrapped up a busy four months with our fourth major event.. the 2019 Ports of Auckland Waka Ama Long Distance Nationals.

In amongst that we have been trucking through day to day activities. We have officially moved from our Alexandra Park office to a temporary office at the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre at Orakei Marina. A huge mihi to Sport Auckland and the staff at Alexandra Park - where the first ever Waka Ama NZ office started in 2012. After 7 years we are sad to say goodbye but excited for our next chapter for the Waka Ama NZ Team
😊
Wrap ups of events....
Takapuna Beach Cup
Another fantastic event, with the waters of Waitematā proving to be very challenging for the Saturday events. 21 international crews in 100 teams competed in the 18km, 35km and 42km races. Forty four teams competed in the juniors/novice and short course races on the Sunday. As always the relay race on Sunday provided much excitement for all those involved.

See you in February 2020

Secondary School Waka Ama Nationals
More than 1950 students from 123 schools took to the water in Rotorua for the 2019 National Secondary School Waka Ama Championships. The number of students competing this year grew by 200. For the first time more than 120 schools took part. The racing was electric and as always a wicked atmosphere on the banks of Lake Tikitapu.

In December 2019 we said farewell to one of our Waka Ama Ohana - Lawrence “Uncle Bo” Campos. Many Aotearoa paddlers were deeply saddened to hear of Uncle Bo’s passing. At the Takapuna Beach Cup we paid our respects for Uncle Bo and held a small memorial with paddlers visiting from Hawaii. We will always remember a mountain of a man with an even bigger personality - Uncle Bo 💗
University of Auckland Great Waka Event
Thank you to all who participated in the 2018 Great Waka Ama Race, a special mention to those clubs and coaches who supported each team in their journey leading up to the big event. It was a wet day at Takapuna and Rangitoto, but conditions on the water were perfect. The racing was exciting with the lead changing a number of times. The first team across the line was Kaipara College who are not eligible for the major prize but were acknowledged on the day and in the results. Congrats to FMHS (Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences) for winning a full-expenses paid trip to compete in Hawaii!!! And to Engineering for placing second and Business for taking home third place out of the Faculty teams!
2019 Ports of Auckland Long Distance Nationals.
Auckland put on a perfect weekend of weather for the 2019 Ports of Auckland LDNs. The Waitematā harbour was brimming with waka, with a staggering number of entries for this National Championships. Over 1000 competitors from around Aotearoa representing 57 clubs will be competing over the 2 days of competition. A huge mihi to those who traveled from far and wide, to the volunteers and AROCA region for such great support and finally Ports of Auckland and Ngāti Whātua Orākei for your support.
As always head to our Waka Ama Facebook Page for all event photos
Looking forward to heading to Picton next year for the 2020 LDNs
