Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to the latest edition of SIMS NEWS.
Assessing the Diet of White Sharks

Understanding more about the diet, prey selection and foraging patterns of white sharks is critical if we are to gain insights into broader aspects of their ecology, such as potential drivers behind their movement patterns and subsequently their interactions with humans. At SIMS, the stomach contents of white sharks are being analysedi as part of the first diet assessment for the species in Eastern Australia.

Featuring interactive technology and virtual reality penguins encounters, plus a Q&A with scientists and explorers, it’s a great opportunity to join us to learn more about your planet and add your voice to those who stand for a healthy ocean.

Operation Crayweed comes to Cabbage Tree Bay in Manly

SIMS is very excited to be partnering with the Lim-Sutton Initiative and Friends of Cabbage Tree Bay, including the Bold and the Beautiful swimming club, to bring Operation Crayweed to Manly.

The project uses a technique developed by scientists from SIMS that is already bringing the underwater forests back to Sydney beaches, including Malabar, Little Bay and Bondi. Healthy crayweed is transplanted onto a mesh mat, which is then attached to a shallow reef.  In each location, the seaweed has thrived with craybies, crayweed babies, appearing after a few months as the new forest starts to grow.
