Highlights from The Carpentries Community Calendar
Instructor Development Committee Leadership Recruitment Interest Meeting
On 3 April 2019 at 16:00 UTC (check your time) and 23:00 UTC (check your time), Serah Rono and Kari Jordan are hosting community calls to discuss how they are planning to onboard the next Instructor Development Committee (IDC) leaders for The Carpentries. Check this blog post or sign-up on this Etherpad to find out all about it in the upcoming call.
Committee and Task Force News
CarpentryCon
The CarpentryCon 2020 Task Force hosted the #CarpentriesConversation on 19 March 2019 to present their ongoing tasks and invite suggestions from the community. The attendees discussed the importance of creating an accessible and inclusive event and recalled the successful aspects of the CarpentryCon 2018. Several members suggested ideas for an eco-friendly conference as well. If you missed the call, catch up by watching this YouTube video. You are welcome to suggest the CarpentryCon 2020 venue and theme until 29 April 2019 (full detail in this blog).
Workshop Administration
The Australian Regional Coordinator, Damien Irving, hosted a themed community discussion on 2 April 2019. He presented the history and future of Carpentries activities in Australia to the instructors and community members. Library Carpentry
The Governance Group, renamed as the Advisory Group of Library Carpentry, is delighted to release Its mission and goals for 2019-2020. They are also recruiting new members and invite you to get in touch with them. Join the Library Carpentry members at the Mozilla-Library Carpentry Global Sprint on 30-31 May 2019 to help improve upon and develop new Library Carpentry material. Executive Council
The Carpentries Executive Council elected officers for the current year and appointed a liaison to the Code of Conduct Committee. Amy Hodge will serve as the Chair, Kate Hertweck will be continuing on as Vice-chair, Mesfin Diro Chaka will be serving as the Secretary, Raniere Silva will take the Treasurer position and Elizabeth Wickes will be the Executive Council liaison to the Code of Conduct Committee. Community Development and Communications
The Carpentries team has been working on the communications strategy of The Carpentries. In this process, the Community Development and Communications team reviewed the different ways that The Carpentries shares resources and information and facilitates communication within the community. Joinery
Tracy Teal, Kari L. Jordan, and Serah Rono will be representing The Carpentries community at csv,conf,v4 from 8 to 9 May in Portland, OR, USA. Kari will also be delivering a keynote talk at the conference. Right before the conference, Tracy and Kari will run a two-day Carpentries Instructors training from 6 to 7 May.
In affiliation with The Carpentries, the Software Sustainability Institute is organising the first European CarpentryConnect event in Manchester from 25th - 27th June 2019. Register before the 10th April to get an early-bird rate. Share this poster with your colleagues.
