Springing Forward

March. Wow. Wait. March? Where has March gone!?! How are we a quarter of the way through 2019 already!

First of all we'd both like to say a huge thank you to everyone that attended Dragonfly and Flea Circus this month; to all the performers that worked with us and to Emily, Maria (David's Mum, who made excellent teas and coffees at Flea Circus), and Tilly, each of whom help us out in various ways that help us run and keep us going.

We also got to be supportive cheerleader friends, seeing Alex Rohmat's Hot Coffee at the Camden People's Theatre. A hilarious look at news, gossip and the people that shape the narratives that we talk about in public forums.

Onwards to Spring then. We've got Susan Kempster coming to town to perform Eye with us. Eye sits, with considerable poise and bittersweet humour, somewhere between dance, performance, happening and theatre. Using an old video camera and a projector, Eye examines the micro-dance of facial expressions. It is an examination of self through the lens of a camera rather than a mirror. It is a close-up, a detail and an intimate diving into those private worlds we sometimes wish no one could see.

We're also happy to announce our next full length Pests Presents theatre event Diary of an Expat by Paper Smokers. Diary of an Expat is a semi autobiographic political comedy about an immigrant’s journey towards full Britishness while a funny little thing called Brexit threatens the European dream of life abroad. Diary of an Expat will be coming to Bournemouth on June 14th at St Michaels Church and tickets will go on sale in the next month or so. We've got more information on the website which you can see if you follow the link below.

We've got plans that we're hussling and bussling away at for the future. We want to really briefly reflect on this notion of planning for the future. Picture the following; David and Sophia are in Budapest, they're with a group of their university friends on a trip organised by David as a celebration of the three years spent together. They're on a bridge, it's a murky, humid day in June of last year. The two of them are plucking names from creative ether for performance events for their company, to be founded when they move back to Bournemouth when their housing contracts run out. On that day, the very first ideas for Flea Circus came into existence, along with a few other things as well.

The process of transitioning Flea Circus from the ethereal realm of ideas to the physical realm of St Michaels Church has been brilliant.

This month, plan your future, tells us all about it so we can help you get there.

Much Love,
David and Sophia

Pupdates from the morale officers

Although they tend to both spend their time sleeping, eating, and looking for a good lap to sit on (please don’t tell Oscar he’s too big, it’ll break his heart) Fred and Oscar spend a lot of their time also encouraging positive mental attitudes. Pests Production works with artists to develop new work, but also to create an environment where this can be achieved whilst considering the challenges mental health presents. As a company, we believe that the mental well-being of those we work with is a top priority, and Oscar and Fred are here to make sure that this approach is properly managed and enforced.

This month, the Morale Officers' Hooman has been busy visiting and being visited by friends (most of whom bring treats, so they're always welcome in her house!)

Now, Oscar and Fred take their role as Morale Officers very seriously; they first started their role because they're in charge of a Hooman who's not always at her best, as most hoomans tend to be. But they've noticed how much her friends help with this. This month, Oscar and Fred would like all their Pesty Pals to focus on that one thing;  friendship.

Cheesy, right?

But this is something that's very important to them, despite its cheesiness. Supporting and checking on friends is one of the greatest efforts you can make for another person. When people silently struggle, a random call, message, or visit, can change the world for them. And whilst Oscar and Fred don't appreciate their hooman going away so much this past month, they know that she's needed to both comfort and be comforted by those she loves. Oscar and Fred are very good at checking on their Hooman; they like to do it most at 7am by slamming into her bedroom door until she wakes up. She, of course, is always grateful for this level of early morning love. But she also likes to check on those that don't slam into her bedroom door at 7am, as well as being checked on by them.

It's not a complex message this month, it's just what the Morale Officers are best at; be a friend. Show some love. Look at who you haven't spoken to in a while and check in on them. Look at who speaks to you non-stop and check in on them too; there's a reason they're so keen to speak all the time.

Ask how they are, then ask again. Don't push people, but give them the space and opportunity to know that, if something's wrong, you're there to listen to them. Oscar may have big ears, but sadly, he can't be there to listen to everyone, so he'd really appreciate you stepping in this month to help him out.

Send a message, make a phone call, pop round for a cuppa, or take them out to the local pub for a quiet chat. It will be appreciated more than you realise.

We hope you enjoy good naps, good belly rubs, and good mental health this month.

Love, Oscar and Fred
