Hey,

Happy Tuesday! I had this section done a few days ago. But I could not pass over the opportunity to talk about Nipsey Hussle. We are all very sad about his death. Not only about his death but to watch a man come from the hood to realizing his life needed a change, then making it happen.

For me this hit hard, because although I never personally knew Nipsey, I do personally know the struggle of making it out of the hood. As well as working hard to help those of your same background because you care about your community. I grew up in Harlem during the start of gentrification, but I was still surrounded by gang violence and frequent shootings. CNN and Afrotech wrote about Nipsey quite nicely.

What can you personally do to help your community? Are you a programmer? Could you volunteer? Take this time to reflect on your own life and what you are doing for your community. Black Girls Code is always in need of volunteers

Remember every bit counts.

Enjoy,
Naya

Tip Of The Week ✨

How to prep for a phone or video interview:
  • Research the company. Know details such as the year founded, the CEO, and the team you will work with.
  • Know the job description well and research each qualification. Write one sentence linking each qualification with your matching experience.
  • Keep handy a minimum of 3 questions you have regarding the role, company, and ideal candidate. Never say "I don't have any questions." 🚫
🔑 When on a video interview tape your notes to the wall or your monitor behind your laptop camera.
