Extended thesis submission hours begin Monday, April 8. Please visit our office between 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. Thesis submission deadline is NOON on April 19. More.

April 5: Humanities Funding Opportunities for Graduate Students Up to $5,000
The Humanities Research Center’s Spatial Humanities Initiative invites proposals for summer travel funding. Example uses include documenting a historic site through sketching, photographs, GPS, or LiDAR technology; exploring local archives holding historic maps and photographs of the site; consulting with regional historians and scholars of the area; etc. More.
Opens this month: SIOP Small Grant Program Up to $7,500 per grant
The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology's Small Grant Program provides tangible support to its members for research related activities. This award can be used in conjunction with other funding for a large-scale project. More.
Opens Sept. 16: Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowships for U.S. Citizens Up to two years; $47,500 per academic year
Fulbright’s postdoctoral and early career awards present an excellent opportunity for recently minted scholars to deepen their expertise, acquire new skills, work with additional resources and make connections with leading scholars in their fields. More.

Diversity in the International Studies Profession April 12, 5 p.m., HUM 117
Ashley Leeds, Chair of Political Science, will focus on understanding the impact of increasing women's representation in the field of international studies, a male-dominated field. Dr. Leeds will draw on research and her own personal experience, and will discuss what recent increases in gender diversity in international studies can tell us about the importance of increasing racial and ethnic diversity in the field.

Smithsonian Latino Museum Studies Program Apply by April 14
Get museum experience with lectures, workshops, and behind-the-scenes tours at the Smithsonian. Runs Jul 13 - Aug 17 and includes lodging and travel to D.C. and a stipend. Graduate students in the fields of Latino art, culture, and history should apply. More.

Screening: The Eternal & Envy April 4, 7 p.m., Rice Cinema
Rice Cinema is happy to present a screening of two films by Rice alum Daniel Stuyck. The Eternal is a ghost story where a phantom transmission implores the help of an occult-savvy delivery driver. Envy is twelve images in 3,900 fragments. A hymn to the most universal of human emotions, in all its stroboscopic glory. More.

NSBE 2019: Explore. Engineer. Elevate.
Seven graduate students in the School of Engineering attended the 2019 National Society of Black Engineers, along with Provost Marie Lynn Miranda, Dean Seiichi Matsuda, Dr. Fred Higgs, Dr. Illya Hicks, Dr. Cortlan Wickliff and alumnus Dr. David Ramirez. Students attended workshops and helped to recruit future engineers to Rice! More photos.
Reyes wins $10,000 fellowship from SIOP
Denise Reyes, a fourth-year graduate student in psychology, has won the Leslie W. Joyce & Paul W. Thayer Graduate Fellowship from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP). “I’ve always had an interest in developing leaders, and a focus on helping women and underrepresented minorities become leaders,” she said. “I will make it my lifelong effort to continually make progress in this domain.” More.
