The Path of Freedom from Meaning
2019 Sudhana Retreat

June 21-28, 2019
Thoughts arise relentlessly leaving its shadows of emotions. Can we gain a mindfulness that sees behind this shadowplay?

Alain Badiou, a well-known European philosopher, investigates contemporary experience in his book Infinite Thought. Through questioning modern assumptions of power, love, and meaning, he tries to open up new possibilities of how we can exist. The Samdhinirmocana Sutra (Sutra of Underlying Meaning), a foundational Yogacara text, describes consciousness and its contents grounded in contemplative practice.

During this one-week retreat, we will combine close reading of both modern Western and classical Buddhist texts with a traditional Buddhist monastic lifestyle of meditation, study, and work designed to calm the mind and open the heart.
