NML works on new 10-year waterfront masterplan

Exciting changes are on the horizon, as National Museums Liverpool—best known for the Museum of Liverpool and Mersey Maritime Museum—nears the end of the tendering process for a new masterplanner.

We’re excited to see what they come up with. Last month the World Museum, Museum of Liverpool, and Maritime Museum were announced the UK’s first, third, and fourth most visited attractions outside of London, respectively.

95% support for Everton’s Bramley Moore stadium project

Speaking at the MIPIM conference in France last month, Denise Barrett-Baxendale, CEO of Everton FC, announced 95% of people involved in their 2018 consultation “were in support of the move to Bramley Dock.”

She stated the stadium will be built within the next 5 years, but so far no mention has been made of the challenges this development would pose to the city’s World Heritage status.

Bold Street Coffee launches evening menu

We really are spoiled for choice when it comes to world class local food in Liverpool. But now the choice is even harder with Bold Street Coffee serving tantalising Tapas from 6pm in the evening, Thursday to Sunday.

Birkenhead Park: A World Heritage Site?

6pm Tuesday 23rd April. £3 donation. Merseyside Civic Society hosts a discussion of the history of Birkenhead’s historic 1847 park—the first publicly funded park in Britain—and the possibility of it being included in an expanded World Heritage footprint.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh at the Walker Art Gallery

10am–4pm every day. £9 admission. The Walker Art Gallery presents over 250 objects from Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries, produced 1890–1920, including a section from the Chinese Room of the Ingram Street Tearooms, which has not previously been displayed outside of Scotland.

Massive boost to cycling and walking in Manchester

As we plan our 2019 seminar series (including a seminar on cycling and walking in the Liverpool City Region) London and Manchester are pressing ahead with promoting and encouraging alternatives to the car. This month we learned Manchester is set to invest around £204 million—or £18 per head per year—on cycling and walking schemes.
