OPENS THURSDAY
With over 120 cast, crew, and orchestra members, the MPS Performing Art’s Department production of Beauty and the Beast promises to be a show you won’t want to miss.
According to director and Performing Arts chair, Arthur Martone '80, “The big challenge with this show is to bring the Broadway production to the stage and create those magical moments that the audience expects to see.“
If you attend, expect some technical surprises as well. In addition, the music for Beauty and the Beast is Movie Music, which means the songs sung by the cast are intertwined into the narrative. “Disney doesn’t skimp on grand moments. The music enhances some of the action, and this is one of their more spectacular scores,” said Mike Miele '03, musical director. The play is beautifully choreographed by Maryanne Mager-Dombrowski.
Beauty and the Beast will be performed in the Mercyhurst Prep Performing Arts Center on April 11, 12, and 13 at 7 p.m., and April 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door: $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $5 for students.

First place was claimed by Strong Vincent Middle School’s A team.
The James S. Wilson Middle School team took second place.
The goal of the 12 competing teams from both public and private middle schools was to beat the buzzer at the Mercyhurst Prep Quiz Bowl on Saturday, March 30. The Quiz Bowl had 9 rounds, each lasting 20 minutes, with questions in all subject areas.
The fast-paced challenging competition used The National Academic Quiz Tournament (NAQT) format. The Strong Vincent Middle School A team earned the top spot, and the James S. Wilson Middle School team took second, which enables both teams to participate in the Middle School National Competition in Rosemont, Illinois, in May. The third place team was Strong Vincent’s B team. The event was organized by Katrin Ayrapetov, Mercyhurst Prep math teacher.
Thank you to all participants and volunteers.
