Our Spring 2019 Newsletter!

Spring has sprung. Summer is Coming!

It's Fundraising time!

The ABWF is hosting two Fundraisers/Friendraisers this month in both Gardiner and Livingston!  You are invited to join us, and bring a friend.  We're trying to build our wonderful group of supporters of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and the ABWF's stewardship programs!

Gardiner:
Friday, April 5th:  A special happy-hour gathering of the Friends of the A-B Wilderness!  A Fundraiser at The Wonderland Cafe in downtown Gardiner.  4 to 7 p.m.  Appetizers are provided by the ABWF.  A full bar is available.

Livingston:
Thursday, April 18th:  A Gathering of Friends of the A-B Wilderness @ The Attic in downtown Livingston (above the Whiskey Creek Saloon).  5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Appetizers are provided by the ABWF & a full bar is available.

Come gather with other friends of the ABWF and find out all about the projects and programs the ABWF brings you each and every year on behalf of the glorious A-B Wilderness. A $25 donation is suggested at the door!
Let's get right to it!

TRAIL PROJECTS:

Our Summer Projects are posted on the Website and open for registration!

We have a number of projects that take place in some of the A-B Wilderness Area's most idyllic settings--places like Mystic Lake, The Beaten Path (E. Rosebud Trail), Thompson Lake, and September Morn Lake (below Sundance Pass).

So act soon because projects are filling up FAST!

Project Locations are numbered in the Map above.
TRAIL AMBASSADORS:

You may know of places in the A-B Wilderness which are being “loved to death”– the ever popular Cooke City to East Rosebud route; the trail to Pine Creek Falls & Lake; the heavily-impacted area around Mystic Lake; the busy Froze-to-Death alpine route up to Granite Peak; and the uber-popular Lake Fork trail.

YOU CAN HELP THESE PLACES BY BECOMING
A TRAIL AMBASSADOR!

In an effort to curb these impacts that threaten the pristine qualities of the A-B Wilderness, the ABWF is again offering our Trail Ambassadors Program. The goal is to place volunteers and ABWF staff at busy trailheads to offer information, advice and reminders about how to minimize everyone’s impacts on the backcountry.

We have scheduled half a dozen Training dates to get you ready to serve as a T/A this summer:

  • Bozeman  April 25 at 6 p.m. @ REI in Bozeman
  •
  • Red Lodge   April 27, Saturday @ 2 p.m.

My friend Aiden and his mom served as Trail Ambassadors one afternoon at the Lake Fork Trailhead outside Red Lodge.  You can too!
Our Educational Programs

There's still a few months left in the school calendar.  Our Program Director, Heather Briggs, is busily scheduling days with kids all around the A-B Wilderness--in the classroom or out in the woods on snowshoes or hikes.  If you would like us to teach your kids about the Wilderness, Leave No Trace ethics, and science/ecology lessons geared around issues that are pertinent to the Greater Yellowstone and the A-B Wilderness, contact Heather at heatherbrigg@gmail.com or call 406-425-1944.
And Finally...Your voice can be heard as the Custer Gallatin NF is in the final stages of revising the Forest Plan, which drives all administrative decisions by the Custer Gallatin National Forest, and thus very much affects the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area.
