Here are a few items on the upcoming City Council meeting agenda: Can’t make it in person? Watch it live online. City Council meetings typically convene on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month. Meetings start at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, Room 240 in the Salem Civic Center.

Salem Police Launches Security Camera Registration Program

Residents and business owners with security cameras can now register their exterior surveillance systems with the Salem Police Department's new Surveillance Camera Registration & Mapping program. Known by its acronym, SCRAM, the program is a way for security camera owners to share their video recordings with police if a crime occurs at or near their location. Participation in the program is voluntary, and at no time does the police department have direct access to a participant’s system. Upcoming Annual Workshop for Landlords April 17-18

​Attention rental property owners, property managers, onsite resident managers! Save April 17 and 18, 2019, for the next Salem Police Department Landlord Training. The workshop has a two-day format (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day) designed to teach participants how to reduce crime in and around rental properties, as well as how to establish and maintain a stable rental environment. Friday Fun Fact

Join the City of Salem and Friends of Trees for the last tree planting event of the season on Saturday, April 6, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., at Bill Riegel Park, 4567 Campbell Drive SE.

Please arrive by 8:45 a.m. to sign-in and enjoy some breakfast treats and coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. The planting starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. We provide gloves, tools, and guidance, so all you need to do is show up dressed for the weather, wear sturdy shoes or boots, and be ready to have fun!

How do you register? All individuals and groups are kindly asked to RSVP.

Qing Ming Open House April 6

Date: Saturday, April 6, 2019, 11:00 a.m.
Location: Salem Pioneer Cemetery, Commercial St SE & Hoyt St SE

Please join us at this open house in placing a flower or lighting a joss stick to honor the Chinese burials throughout the Salem Pioneer Cemetery. Opening remarks begin at 11:00 a.m. with an open house to follow. Call 503-540-2347 for more information.

Public Workshop on Multifamily Housing Design April 30

​The community is invited to a public workshop on the design of multifamily housing on Tuesday, April 30, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Salem Public Library, Anderson Rooms, 585 Liberty Street SE. You can review and provide input on refined ideas for updating Salem's multifamily housing regulations.

This is the second public workshop for the City's Multifamily Housing Design project. The project seeks to update the City's regulations on housing developments with three or more dwelling units. 

The City received a lot of input on initial code concepts at the first public workshop and through an online survey. The survey is open through April 5, so there is still time to participate. Learn more→

Friends of Salem Public Library Spring Book Sale April 5-7

More than 20,000 books, sorted by subject matter, are available for purchase at bargain prices at the annual Friends of Salem Public Library Spring Book Sale in Anderson Rooms A&B at Salem Public Library. Sale hours:
  • 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6
  • 1:00 p.m. - 4:40 p.m. Sunday, April 7 - $4 Bag Day. Bags are provided!

The annual challenge is a nonprofit national community service campaign to inspire residents to make online pledges at mywaterpledge.com to use water more efficiently, reduce pollution, and save energy.

Our Salem: Today

We're working on a multi-year project to update the Salem Area Comprehensive Plan, which guides development in the Salem area. The first phase, called Our Salem: Today, is analyzing the existing conditions of the City and evaluating how Salem could grow under current policies.

April Edgewater Walking Cruise

On this month's walk, share fliers with neighbors about Season Two of the West Salem Farmers Market, which starts on May 2 in Edgewater. This year's market will feature more days and more activities! After the walk, meet back at Urban Grange for coffee and conversation. All are welcome.

2020 Census Information Session

Date: Wednesday, April 24, 3:00 p.m.
Location: Center 50+, 2615 Portland RD NE
Preparations are underway for the 2020 U.S. Decennial census. The constitutionally mandated census count appropriates congressional seats and affects sixteen large federal assistance programs which distribute funds to local services. Help is needed to prepare our community to be counted. All are welcome to attend to learn more about the Census and how we can achieve a complete count.
