MTS - Montana
Rev. Steve Bostrom
Montana’s legislature meets every other year – on odd years. As a board member of the Montana Pastors Network, during the previous session of our legislature, 1/17/17, I helped facilitate the first Legislators/Pastors lunch in Helena. We had about 40 come - 20 legislators and 20 pastors.
This year,1/15/19, I MC’d the luncheon in the ornate Old Supreme Court Chambers. About 100 legislators and pastors gathered. Here is MT Family Foundation's report (if you’d like to listen, this link is the 3-minute report was aired on the radio).
As we started, I reminded legislators and pastors that, as grateful as we are to be Montanans, our ultimate citizenship is in heaven.
The following story shows us what a difference such a focus makes. A wealthy man, proud of his gold, attempted to smuggle gold bars into heaven. St. Peter saw him approaching and asked: “What’s in your sack?” The man proudly opened his bag. St. Peter smiled and asked: “Did you think we needed more pavement in heaven?”
John tells us that the leaves of the tree in heaven are for the healing of the nations – not simply individuals or families or tribes – but, whole cultures. What an impact the Gospel will have on our world.
As legislators and pastors, our primary privilege is to be agents of God’s kingdom – to be his representatives. May God so empower us.
