PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We would like to Thank Vicky Myers for her demonstration last month.  Several members mentioned that they picked up some useful tips for their painting.

Our Demonstrator for April will be John Byram, who will do a landscape or still life watecolor for us. I am looking forward to watching the watercolor appear and listening to tips he may have for us.  Check his bio and examples of his work below.

We are progressing on our shows!  Our first window display will be at 123 Artsakh Ave., in the new arts district of Glendale near the main library, and next to the Urartu Café.  The board decided to show board member's work the first month which will probably be installed the 23rd of April.  We will ask for other members to submit work for the next month.  The title for our window show is "Spring into Art".  Each show may have up to 10 artists with 2 pieces of work each. For more information on this show, see the City of Glendale flyer below.

The Swain's show take in will be June 3rd and we will set up on the 4th, with our opening reception on the following Saturday, June 8th, and take down July 1st.  We are working on a Call For Artists for this show and are planning to have it in your email by May 6th.  The title for  this exhibit will be "SoCal Summer", so start painting new work that may reflect that idea.

John Byram WATERCOLORIST

John Byram has been painting in transparent watercolor for over twenty-five years.

Undertaking each painting with the words of Thomas Eliot in mind, “Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go,” his goal is always to push the balance: between accurate representation and the wonderful chaos of the medium; between tight and loose brushwork; between what's deliberate and what almost paints itself.

John’s work has appeared in the Annual Arroyo Arts Discovery Tour, the Mohave County Museum, the Southwest Museum and the Acorn Gallery in Los Angeles. He studied under noted aquarellists Fealing Lin, Robert J. Uecker and Robert S. Oliver.

John is a member of Mid Valley Arts League and the Mount Washington Plein Air Painters. He conducts workshops and currently teaches classes through the City of Glendale’s Lifelong Learning Program. See his work at www.johnbyram.com

John is an award winning architect and has a Bachelor in Architecture from Arizona State University, a Masters of Architecture and City Planning from the University of California, Berkeley. He lives with his wife Simran, his son Neil, and a dog named Nick in Pasadena, California.
