Welcome to the 12th issue of The Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) e-Newsletter! The aim of this publication is to keep you informed and updated concerning the transgender veteran community. The TAVA e-Newsletter is published quarterly. Each issue brings you the latest information on new TAVA initiatives, TAVA partners, conferences TAVA will send a representative to, and news items that are of interest for the transgender veteran and community. Fight The Ban Rally - April 10, 2019 - Capitol Reflecting Pool, Washington, D.C.
On March 29, 2019, The House of Representatives voted to condemn the Trump administration's Transgender Military Ban. The next step is for Congress to pass the bipartisan bill that would stop the ban once and for all. On April 10, join active and former trans service members, members of Congress, and trans leaders on Capitol Hill to call on Congress to pass this legislation and #FightTheBan!

Jennifer Long Joins The TAVA Board
Last month, TAVA was proud to welcome Jennifer Long to the Board as Treasurer. Jennifer brings years of experience and leadership to TAVA. Jennifer is a decorated retired Command Sergeants Major. Currently, she is Director of Agency Services for NJ Motor Vehicle Commission and also is a financial service professional with Integrated Financial Concepts. On January 9, 2019, TAVA Board Member Zander completed OutServe-SLDN's Rainbow Shield Certification Training. - Tufts University Skype Event
On February 21, 2019 TAVA Board Member Denny took part in a Tufts University event via Skype. This was a diversity event for Political Science students that included local ROTC folks. Denny spoke about TAVA and AVER.
- Transgender Military Discussion Panel
On February 27, 2019, TAVA Treasurer Jennifer spoke at the Temple University Beasley School of Law's Transgender Military Discussion Panel. - NYC SAGE Veterans Event
On February 28, 2019, TAVA Board Member Denny spoke at the The Center in NYC at a SAGE Veterans event. NY State Veterans commissioners and other veterans services were present. Denny spoke about TAVA and AVER for about ten minutes.
- TAVA Board Member Women’s History Month Keynote Speaker, University of Mary Washington
On March 18, 2019, TAVA Board Member Kimberly delivered a Keynote Speech for Women's History Month at the University of Mary Washington. "I have never experienced anything like it. By the end the event I was blown away by the love and empathy that was extended to me by the audience. These college students gave me such hope for the future."
- Quarterly Conference for the Veteran and Family Health Education and Information Committee (N.CA Health Care System)
On March 25, 2019, Gene represented TAVA as the Veteran Outreach at this quarterly conference. The national VHEI program was created back in 2006. The program is a coordinated approach to planning, delivering, and evaluating evidence-based veteran-centered health education programs, services, and resource materials for veterans and, as appropriate, their family members and caregivers.

On March 29, 2019, TAVA Board Member & Media Director Denny gave a 20 minute speech at SAGE presented by the NY State Veterans Commissioner on the occasion of Vietnam Veterans Day, proclaimed by the Governor of NY.
