Chair's Message

Beta. One of the best parts of planning for future trips is looking up beta and trying to plan in advance. For me, the adventure starts at home by getting inspired by a picture or story of a climb and then starting the planning process by sifting through as much information as I can get my hands on. Right now, I'm in the process of deciding what will still taste good on day 5 of a big wall (not much is looking good).

This year I'd like to build up our trip report library on our website. You may be wondering if it makes a difference if you write a trip report about a club trip but I'd like to reassure you that it makes a huge difference! I've pointed new members to trip reports to give them an idea of what our section is about. Pictures and stories from our members tell the story a lot better than I can. Historically the trip reports published in old versions of the breeze give us insight into the routes taken to the top of a peak and the conditions at the time. They've stood the test of time and give us an idea of the spirit of the section. For those not familiar, you can browse past trip reports at https://accedmonton.ca/trip-reports-1

If you have any trip reports kicking around in your mind, please send them to myself (chair@accedmonton.ca) or our communications director (communications@accedmonton.ca) and we will reward you with either a MEC gift card or a Rock Jungle Fitness punch pass. We are looking for well written reports of a trip including as much beta as possible, as many pictures as possible and even GPX tracks. Inspire someone to get out there and get after it!

Exploring The Inner Ranges: Finding the Words for a Mountain Life with Geoff Powter

This talk will combine readings from his new book with personal tales from Geoff's life of adventure and an honest look at the challenges of telling mountain stories in the right way - particularly the shifts of perception that come with changing seasons of a mountain life. Geoff will be including excerpts from his recent book "Inner Ranges", which the American Alpine Journal described as"Inner Ranges is one of the most reflective, well-crafted, self-aware climbing books to come out in recent years."  AAJ 2019

This meeting is our new BYOB format. Please come to enjoy the presentation, and take time afterwards to mingle, chat, share beta and trip plans with members and guests.
