Young People's Health Partnership Newsletter

About the Young People's Health Partnership

The Young People’s Health Partnership is a part of the Health and Wellbeing Alliance and represents the interests of young people and young adults aged 10 – 25. We focus specifically on young people facing health inequalities. We are a partnership of six organisations with voluntary and community networks across England from the youth and young people’s health sectors.

As part of our work on the NHS Long Term Plan and to support young people's voices to be heard we collaborated with NHS England, the NHS Youth Forum, RCPCH and iwill to organise and run a Youth Voice Summit.
The summit took place on the 23rd of April in London and over 100 young people attended to share their insights on the role of young people in shaping the future of health and care. The young people met with some of the most senior leaders in the NHS to co-create ideas and strategies to take forward the NHS Long Term Plan, including how it can be implemented locally. Simon Stevens the Chief Executive of the NHS attended the meeting to hear what young people have to say, as well as Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer, Yvonne Coghill, Director of Workforce Race Equality Standard Implementation, Dido Harding, Chair of NHS Improvement and Tara Donnelly, Chief Digital Officer.

Supporting Young People's Mental Health

YPHP has been on the road! As part of the Health & Wellbeing Alliance's additional work programme we led 2 projects with the support of our HWA partners to help improve the mental health & wellbeing of children and young people and to improve understanding about young people not in employment, education or training who experience common mental health issues. We have been travelling to local PHE centres to share the messages and key themes that came out of the engagement work from these projects and to ask local professionals and commissioners where the gaps are and what actions can help them to support young people.

The workshops were very successful with lots of valuable engagement and insights. We are now working on the final versions of the toolkit and resources from the projects and will send a special edition of the newsletter with all the products shortly!

Activity Update

YPHP partners, UK Youth and StreetGames worked together to share a blog and webinar on social prescribing for young people and how local action, for and by local people can help create healthier, fairer, safer places for young people to grow up in. The event will be open to all practitioners, commissioners, academics and policy makers who have an interest in social prescribing for children, young people and families.

Student Health
In March YPHP attended the APPG on Young People' Health at the House of Lords. Primary Care Networks

Youth Mental Health
Youth Access are designing a simple online resource to help young people navigate the mental health system and are asking for young people's help to design the tool. The resource will help young people find out what kind of support is available, how they should be treated by a service, and what to do if they feel that they aren't being treated fairly.

Young People & Addiction
Addaction featured on the 'Beating Addictions' episode of BBC 1 Xtra Talks, where young people spoke about their experiences of addiction and the challenges faced when whilst recovering from addiction.
