Amplifying Music in Our LA Conference plus Opera and Tech Podcast Episode

We hope the spring has been treating you well.  We have been a bit quiet, as we have been busy at SXSW and with follow-up research from February's Future of Music in LA Symposium, hosted by the City of LA Department of Cultural Affairs as part of its COMPOSE LA Series.  Recordings of the event can be found at this link.

May 15 -- Amplify Music in Our LA Conference

For those of you that "saved the date" for the April follow-up event -- we have shifted our Amplify Music in Our LA Conference with more speakers and roundtables to May 15, here at UCLA.  It will be both live at UCLA and live online for remote participation.
  • Speaker Nominations -- We have the day planned out around speakers, panels, and roundtables to further explore communities of music in Los Angeles and how we might work together to amplify LA's music communities.  Do you know someone who we should be talking with?  Please email gigi.johnson@ucla.edu with speaker nominations.

    • This conference is a continuation of the February Future of Music in LA Symposium produced by the City of Los Angeles Dept. of Cultural Affairs, UCLA CMI, The Broad, and Bootleg Theater  Both events are part of our ongoing 2019 event series on the Future of Music in LA

  • Registration will open in Eventbrite next week -- stay tuned.

Amplifying Music in Our Los Angeles

A Conference Amplifying and Connecting the Music Scenes of Los Angeles

FREE REGISTRATION TO OPEN IN EARLY APRIL

Hosts: The Center for Music Innovation at UCLA Alpert

Location:  Charles E. Young Research Library Auditorium

Time: 9 am - 4:30 pm

Date:  Wednesday, May 15, 2019

While streaming music has expanded to 75% of recorded revenue, live music communities are where we explore, live, enjoy, and create.  How can Los Angeles’ music scene(s) be supported and work together to continue to create something robust, diverse, and dynamic in this changing era?

This conference expands the conversation of how Los Angeles can grow and connect/collaborate around its diverse music scenes.  If other cities are challenged by gentrification in having vibrant live music scenes, (a) why is Los Angeles seeming to be growing, despite these difficulties and (b) how we we enhance and amplify this growth?

This Conference is the second in a series of events that UCLA Center for Music Innovation is holding with this Future of Music in LA focus across 2019 across LA, so we welcome you to be involved in those programs as well

Enjoy our podcast with Marivi Valcourt from the LA Opera.  Her work connects digital marketing to a more traditional, multilingual art form. She shares practical ideas for building local audience while learning from other cities and building tourism tools for our local opera scene. She also shares ways to work with cultural and lifestyle influencers with opera and ways to engage with multiple audiences in this increasingly digital age.
