Dear Ones,
As your new vestry continues to dream and plan for the future of Saint David's, I wonder if you'd like to join us? Last month, during our vestry retreat, we discussed the difference between mission and vision statements - the former fixed in the present and the latter in the future.
A Place for All at God's Table is the closest thing that we have to a consistently used mission statement. As I wrote last week - A Place for All is such a gift to anyone looking to connect instead of divide, to gather with all instead of just the like minded. As a mission statement it is both timely and timeless.
Now what about a vision statement? Assuming that we continue to be a place where all are welcome to worship and to be part of the body of Christ in this place... what does that look like in years to come? What are the marks and metrics that show us that we are living into the fullness of God's mission for us? What are your dreams for this place and people and how can you engage in new and vital ways to make them so? I offer to you this week, the newsprint from our retreat that list a smattering of the dreams that popped up in our initial conversation. What would you add? What would you highlight? What is your vision for Saint David's?
If you are so moved, I would love to hear from you. Email, call, stop by, talk to a vestry member... let us know what dreams and visions you have for us!
Dreaming dreams,
Kristen

UPCOMING
Adult Forum: Lenten Scripture Engagement
In the middle of our Ash Wednesday liturgy we receive an invitation to a holy Lent, a time marked “by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word.” This year, you are invite to consider what taking on a daily practice of scripture engagement might look like in your life. During the season of Lent we will gather for 45 minutes after the 10am service to try on a variety of practices for meditation on God’s word. Our goal is to enrich our life with Christ by identifying and practicing a method of scripture engagement that is life-giving and practical for each person. Please contact the Rev. Melesa Skogund for more information.
St. David’s Men’s Group:
On the first Saturday of each month, we invite the men of St. David’s (and their friends) to an informal breakfast and brief Bible study. Our deacon, Harvey Bale, started and led a similar group that became much beloved in his previous parish and would like to begin one here at St. David’s. Our next breakfast will be on Saturday, April 6 at 9 am at St. David’s. Please RSVP to the Rev. Harvey Bale so that we can get a good count for ordering coffee and breakfast food– and don’t be concerned if you cannot attend every Saturday scheduled. Harvey can be reached at harvey@stdavidsdc.org with any questions.
First Sundays:
Our next First Sunday is Sunday, April 7, 2019. On the first Sunday of every month, the service of Holy Eucharist at 10 am is led almost entirely by the youth of the parish. We will be recruiting for youth acolytes, lectors & ushers. In lieu of Sunday School, children will remain for the entire service and the homily will be a children's homily. If you have young people in your midst who would like to help lead the First Sunday service, please contact Kristen!
Easter Flower Donations
The flowers and greens that beautify St. David’s Church on Easter express the great joy of this festival day. We invite parishioners to give thanks for life’s blessings, to remember those who have died, or to honor friends and family by making Easter memorial flower donations (suggested $25). Click here to fill out an online form (payment can be made online or via check/cash), or pick up a hard copy in the Sanctuary. All donations must be made by Monday, April 8, 2019.
Meet & Greet and Realm Learning Session:
On Sunday, April 7 following both morning services, join our parish administrator, Joel Wood, who will be present to answer any of your pressing questions and to offer assistance with signing-up for and using our new database, Realm. Stop by to say hello and to update your directory information.
The Eggs are Coming!
It is our tradition at St. David’s to distribute large, brightly colored plastic Easter eggs during Lent. This year they will be given out on Sunday, April 7. Parishioners fill them with CVS, Giant, and Safeway gift cards in denominations of $10 to $25. The eggs are then returned on Easter Sunday, April 21. The gift cards are used by Friendship Place, one of our outreach ministries, with their consumers. The cards serve many functions including giving the homeless the ability to purchase their own grooming supplies and fill medications. They also cover cleaning supplies for the newly housed, disposable diapers for young families and other items not covered by federal benefits. All are encouraged to participate!
Tuesday Morning Bible Study:
Please know that we continue to be open to all who are interested in going deeper into scripture with friends. We are using the Disciple program, a well-known and respected program that covers both the Old and New Testaments over the course of 34 sessions. Though you can drop-in, this study is meant for those who are able and willing to commit to homework and regular attendance (as much as your schedule allows). Those interested in joining or with questions, please contact Kristen directly. We meet the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 10 am.
