BONJOUR, BUTTERY BREADS!

It's the Final Canaldown

Bit of a stretch with that one, but we're sleep deprived from watching our brackets crumble, so humor us. Tonight (April 4) is your chance to view and comment on updated design concepts for the Georgetown Canal Plan, created to revitalize and reactivate this one-mile section of the Canal in Georgetown. Georgetown Heritage and the National Park Service are hosting the meeting from 6 pm to 8 pm in the Canal Overlook room at Georgetown Park. RSVP and visit the Georgetown Heritage website for more information.

The *Anything But Crazy* Cat Lady

Five hours before her flight home, on her 24th birthday, Kanchan Singh walked into a Thai cat café and felt like she’d been hit by a brick wall. That night she mapped out an entire business plan on a stack of United napkins, landed in the States, and quit her job. In this week's byGeorge blog, the founder of Crumbs & Whiskers cat cafe (3211 O St NW) shares why she ultimately chose her true passion over cultural expectations and parental pressure, how she proved everyone who thought she was a 'dumb Millennial chick' incredibly wrong, and why adoption is at the center of it all.

Memorieeees, Light the Corners of My Mind

Take a page from Babs and conjure up your favorite Georgetown recollections for a new Mapping Georgetown project. Use this map of Georgetown to tell your story--sharing your favorite memories, people, places, and things. You can use words, pictures, vignettes, doodles, and anecdotes, and any variation of pens, markers, or crayons you'd like. The maps will be published in a collection and the originals will be archived in the Peabody Room of the Georgetown Public Library. Contact Marilyn Butler with any questions, and start mapping what's already in your mind.

Hall Pass to Cheat On Your Kindle

There's no replacing the smell of an old book--and if your Kindle has any smell at all, something may be terribly wrong. Kick it old school for the Lantern Bookshop (3241 P St NW) spring half-priced sale this Friday, April 5 - Sunday, April 7, with 50% off books, music, art, and Bryn Mawr College merchandise. This neighborhood favorite is an all-volunteer used and rare bookshop that donates all profits to Bryn Mawr College to support student scholarships, so you'll be stockpiling for a good cause.

Meditation Cushion: Millennial Code for Naptime

Trigger warning: Anyone reading this from a traditional office may feel overwhelming envy, and/or the desire to quit your job. Take Care (1338 Wisconsin Ave NW), a natural skincare and lifestyle shop (that's hosting an awesome spring soiree this weekend), recently opened their new wellness oriented co-working space, Workwell, to support entrepreneurs, contractors and creatives who lack a flexible and reliable space to work. Co-working members can take advantage of an aromatherapy bar, meditation cushions, regular wellness engagements like desk yoga and reiki, and coffees and teas--plus snacks for purchase. Visit their website to learn more. Fellow Georgetown shop owners in need of flexible workspace can reach out directly for a special neighborhood rate.

Cheaper Than Therapy

Styrofoam, stamps, and geli plates--not to be misread as deli plates, lest you arrive expecting a salami spread--are your mediums at the next Washington Printmakers Gallery (1641 Wisconsin Ave NW) monthly workshop, Printing From Nature with Nina Muys, April 14 from 2 pm - 3 pm. Participants will explore the beauty of the natural form and create prints using those tools, with the many layers of color resulting in a unique print. Sign up early--the workshop is limited to eight participants. This event is free, but a $5 donation toward materials is appreciated.

Talk of the (George)Town

Georgetown isn't in any danger of losing its crown as the Coffee Capital of DC, thanks to the opening of Compass Coffee in the old Georgetown theater building.

Check out the gorgeous interior for yourself and let us know what you think on InstagramFacebook, & Twitter! What else would you like to see in Georgetown?
