The Sacred Earth workshop

Saturday, April 13

Tom Lewis combines his training in spirituality with a passion for nature to ask the question, “How does God use the sacred earth to transform our spiritual lives?”

We will take a contemplative approach and learn how to see nature at a deeper level. This event will provide opportunities to practice and learn more about nature experientially. While the April 13 event will launch a learning series on eco spirituality, the one-day workshop can be attended as a stand-alone event. All are welcome, regardless of background.

Dr. Tom Lewis is the former Director of the Spirituality Program at Columbia Seminary in Atlanta, GA. He is an ordained Presbyterian minister and serves currently as the Program Director at Center for Spiritual Wisdom. Tom has taught numerous workshops and courses, and has a particular passion for the intersection of spirituality and nature.

"The Sacred Earth" will take place at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 256 E. Main St. in Brevard, from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on the lower level of the main building (please use use rear entrance & parking area). Cost of the event, including a simple lunch, is $40. Register online HERE.

Buddhist Wisdom for Non-Buddhists

Sunday, April 14 at 5:00 p.m.
Elk Haven Wellness Center
Brevard, N.C.

Join us for our next Second Sundays at the Center event on April 14 at 5:00 p.m. for "Buddhist Wisdom for Non-Buddhists." Our presenter will be Amy Goldweber, director of Heartwood Refuge retreat center in Hendersonville, N.C. All are welcome, regardless of background.

Our Second Sundays monthly series is held at Elk Haven Wellness Center, 100 Elks Club Road, just off Park Avenue in Brevard. Our doors open at 5:00 p.m. for a time of informal gathering and conversation, featuring light snacks and beverages. At 5:30, we welcome our presenter for a half-hour presentation, followed by questions, answers and comments. The event concludes by 6:30 p.m.

Although there is no charge to attend, donations are gladly received to cover expenses and support an honorarium for the presenter. Donors of $20 or more receive their choice of a thank-you in the form of a glass of Green Heart organic vegetable juice or a delicious gluten-free Reason to Bake cookie.

On April 14, Amy Goldweber will offer her personal take on the wisdom of the Buddha for those who may not be familiar with this ancient-yet-modern path. Although Buddhism originated six centuries before the birth of Jesus, many in our Western culture are unfamiliar with this insightful and practical approach to life and spirituality. Regardless of your background, you are welcome to listen, learn, and participate. The host for the Second Sundays series is Mary Marinucci, an associate at Center for Spiritual Wisdom.

In & Around the Community

Part of our mission at CSW is to serve the common good: in the world and our local community. In that spirit, we will occasionally list events that may be of interest to readers of our e-news. Here are two:

Caminamos con Dios Hike - Sat., March 30
Caminamos con Dios means "We walk with God." A group in Transylvania County offers monthly hikes and informal worship in the Christian tradition, including Holy Communion. The starting point varies from month to month. On Saturday, March 30, the group will gather at the Pisgah Ranger Station (Highway 276) at 8:45 a.m., begin worship and hiking at 9:00, follow the nature trail near the parking lot, cross the bridge over the Davidson River, and make a loop along the river back to the Ranger Station. There, Holy Communion will celebrated, followed by a communal lunch. (Please bring your lunch, but it can be left in your car). The group has no agenda other than enjoying the beauty of God's creation and offering informal worship in that setting.
