Values of the Sacred Feminine for Women and Men -- Reconciling Our Spirituality and Politics
"Down With Patriarchy - May Patriarchy Fall!"
That was the rallying cry of some of the women's groups I was a part of years ago when I first discovered Goddess. At the time I didn't realize how nebulous that was and no one else was voicing that concern either, not even the group leaders. We knew things weren't working for lots of people, particularly women, but we never talked about what the process to replace this discriminatory and authoritarian structure would look like or what steps would be necessary to get there. It's kind of like the person who prays at their altar for a job without sending out resumes or going on interviews. We also didn't talk about how patriarchy damages men. I'm sad to say some of the women probably saw most men as the enemy and might never get past that idea. I think some of the teachers and leaders I've known, some of the people in the groups I've belonged to, never get past learning about ancient goddesses, deciding what color candle to use on their altar or just going to Goddess like she's an ATM machine where they can make withdrawals for love or money.
I realized values of the Sacred Feminine were the answer to many of humanity's woes. It was what could change the world and I set out to try to get support for those beliefs. I found them with my original mentor, Riane Eisler, (Chalice and the Blade, Sacred Pleasure, Partnership Way, etc) and the Center for Partnership Studies. There I became a Caring Economics Discussion Leader that went a long way to explaining how we can reconcile what I believe are values of the Sacred Feminine or our spirituality with economics and politics...namely partnership and caring economics.
I hope you'll read either this very short definition on caring economics, or a more detailed and easy to understand writing on caring economics by Riane Eisler about this subject, so when you start hearing the uninformed equating progressive politics or democratic socialism with communism or failed socialism you can counter the argument or simply know better. Democratic socialism is neither communism or socialism and I believe it is very closely aligned with values of the sacred feminine. Be in the know. It's too important to bury our heads in the sands if we really do want to manifest a new normal and change the world!

 Many of you have done ritual with me, marched with me, attended my classes or listened to my podcasts. Maybe you've read my books or we've traveled together to sacred sites. We've gotten to know each other over the years, but here's something I'll bet you didn't know......Roy and I were the founders of the Isis Ancient Cultures Society where we re-created ancient rituals in a modern context. So elaborate were our beach rituals, they were often mistaken for a movie set. Check out this picture of one of our Isis Navigatum/Festivals of Isis rituals held at the Japanese Gardens in Burbank, CA. Our ritual wear was written about in books on contemporary material culture of those advocating for a feminine face of god.
