New Broadband Legislation Would Achieve NCACC’s Top Legislative Priority
Last week, Representatives Josh Dobson, David Lewis, John Szoka, and Kevin Corbin introduced HB 431, FIBER NC Act, which encourages the creation of public-private partnerships to bring better broadband access to more areas of the state. The legislation would broaden the authority of local governments to lease broadband infrastructure to internet service providers, who would then provide retail service to customers. The NCACC thanks the sponsors. Click here for press coverage on the bill.

Listen In to the Latest Episode of CountyCast
It is a crucial role of the sheriff’s department to serve and protect the citizens of a county, and in New Hanover County, this includes building a network of support for formerly incarcerated individuals so that they “are released from jail with a plan, instead of questions; hope, instead of worry,” through a project called Community1.
We’re joined by the founder of the Community1 program, Officer Anthony Johnson from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Sarah Stoloff, an intern with the program, to talk about the collaborative process that brought about this one-of-a-kind project.
