Please bring your worn, tattered, or faded American flags to Maxwell by May 22. We are collecting them for the CNY Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America for its annual Memorial Day Watchfire, held this year on May 26.
Friends of Maxwell 16th Annual Geranium Sale
Order from April 8 to May 10, cash or check.
This year’s colors are Red, White, Salmon Splash, White-to-Rose, and Magenta.
Plants come in 4.5” pots. Prices are 1 for $5, 1/2 dozen for $20, 1 dozen for $33.
Pick-up day is Saturday, May 18, 9 AM-12 PM at the Village Hall.
Helio Health offers innovative treatment for substance use and mental health disorders. Those seeking help can call 315-401-4288. Maxwell and Helio Health are working on finding a set day and time for the mobile support unit to be at the library. As soon as this can be arranged, we will get the word out. Please watch for our announcement and for the orange van in our lot.

CNY Technology User Group
Monday, April 1
5:30-7:30 PM
Free. No registration.

For novices through professionals, the group explores the ever-changing world of technology, whether it involves laptops, cell phones, home security systems, or anything else that interests the inquisitive mind.
Each meeting starts with a Q&A session, so bring those pesky problems that have been troubling you. For more information, go to the Central New York PC User Group website at www.cnypcug.org.
Open House for
The Green Bag Lady Project

Saturday, April 6
12:30-2:30 PM
Free. No registration.

Green Bag Lady is an eco-friendly art project started by artist Teresa Van Hatten-Granath in 2008. Teresa and her international teams of volunteer "Bagettes" make bags out of donated fabric and give them away for free, in exchange for the promise to refuse paper and plastic when shopping. To date they have given away over 56,000 bags all over the world. Margaret Little, Maxwell Memorial Library's newest employee, is looking for new members for the Syracuse Area Green Bag Lady chapter. Anyone interested in learning more about the Green Bag Lady Project, in taking part by cutting, sewing, ironing bags, or in donating washable cotton fabric is invited to stop in during this open house. Green Bag Lady is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

A working-class Italian-American bouncer becomes the driver of an African-American classical pianist on a tour of venues through the 1960s American South. Based on a true story. Seating is limited, so please reserve your place online or

Unraveling Yarns Book Club

All book selections have a mystery or suspense theme. Bring your needlework and unravel a different plot each month. Non-knitters are also welcome.

 Make two beautiful layered cards for spring with Alyson Esposito. There will be one floral and one tree stamped image. Complete the designs using rubber stamps and colored pencils and your choice of several sentiments. All supplies provided. Registration is required to ensure enough supplies are prepared. Class size is limited to twelve participants.

Learn how to find and use obituaries, death records, and cemetery records to add dates and data to your family tree.

Want to learn more about where your family came from? This class will teach you how to start with yourself and move back through your family tree. Using a Central New York family as an example, you will practice filling out pedigree and family group sheets, look at census and vital records, see how to use online sites such as Ancestry.com (free at Maxwell Library) and FamilySearch.org, and discuss DNA tests, which sites to test through, and what to do with the results. There will be ample time at the end of the presentation for questions.

Lynda.com is an online resource the library subscribes to that offers short courses and tutorials in a variety of areas including using technology, running a business, learning photography, and more. April's tech program will introduce how to use Lynda and what sorts of things you can learn there.
 You may bring your personal laptop, tablet, or phone.


Vinyasa Flow Yoga Class for Adults
Important update:
Classes are on hiatus for a while. The instructor, Steve Emery, had to assume full responsibility for coaching a lacrosse team that he had been co-coaching. We hope to restart in the summer. Stay tuned and toned!
TBL Peer-Based Suicide Support Group
Tuesdays at Maxwell

Two Brothers' Light (TBL) is a non-profit organization that promotes mental wellness, suicide prevention and awareness. It holds peer-based support groups for individuals affected by suicide and other mental health issues. These meetings are free and open to anyone seeking information on mental health concerns, suicide prevention and awareness, alternatives to suicide, or grief support for those affected by suicide.

PAWS of CNY Dog Visit
Read to Lily!

Thursday, April 4
 4:30-5:30 PM

Free. Registration preferred but not required. Best for ages up to 12.


Come meet and read stories to Lily, a friendly dog volunteer from PAWS of CNY. This program allows children to practice reading aloud without the fear of being criticized or corrected. Books are provided, or you can bring a special favorite one from home.

Create spring landscape paintings using water-based oil pastels.

And of course, there will be popcorn! Today, our feature is Mary Poppins Returns, 2018; PG; 130 minutes.


Thursday, April 18, NOON-1 PM--Cardboard Creations. Best for ages 6 and up, with parental assistance. With the Makedo Cardboard Construction Toolkit, children can use their imaginations to make unique cardboard creations to take home. All supplies provided.

 
Safe Place to Game
Wednesday, April 24
4 to 6 PM


Free. For ages 7 to 18.
Registration preferred.
Safe Place to Game is a community program where students and families can learn and play trading card games like Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering,
and Yu-Gi-Oh.
Artwork by students in the West Genesee CSD will be on display throughout the library from March through May!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
To promote reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers as well as to encourage parent and child bonding through reading, the 1000 Books Foundation has issued a challenge to parents to read 1000 books to their children before kindergarten. Stop in at Maxwell Library to get your first reading log and informational materials, and start reading! Kids can track their progress by looking for their personalized owl stickers on the wall near the picture books.

Are you planning on visiting a New York State or an Onondaga County park? Borrow a NYS Empire Pass or an Onondaga County Park Pass from Maxwell Library before your trip. Both passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis to patrons over the age of 18 with OCPL library accounts in good standing. They may be checked out for three days, and must be returned in person at Maxwell. Call or stop in for more details.
Maxwell Library Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees meets on the third Monday of each month unless stated otherwise. The public is welcome to attend. If you would like to address the board or request a topic to be put on the agenda, please contact director Amanda Perrine at aperrine@onlib.org at least two weeks before the meeting. The agenda is posted online one week before.
