Land Care: Rehabiltating the Community Wildlife Corridor
There are opportunities for ZGWA members to engage in voluntary work to rehabilitate the Community Wildlife Corridor (CWC) where bush, stretching from Stock Road at Hamilton Hill, right through to and right into  the sacred Bibra Lake Wetlands area, was utterly destroyed two years ago to make way for the government-planned Roe Highway 8. This is now on hold until it can be rezoned as an essential wildlife corridor in this suburban Perth City area for birdlife, fauna  and flora.

The rehabilitation work starts at a given venue on the CWC never more than about 10-15 minutes from Fremantle (announced a week or so before by CWC and in St Paul’s dojo on a Thursday night). It starts at 7.30am and ends at 9.30am (a bit later at 8am – 10am in the winter),  however, any time you can offer from half an hour upwards is much appreciated by the CWC rehabilitation organizers. Depending on the time of year, land care can include weeding of alien plants to allow the native vegetation to flourish, collecting native seeds and later planting them, and planting other native trees and bushes.

The season at present is Bunuru when the rain and cooler weather start to transform the wildlife corridor. At present weeding is targeting the ever more widespread alien plants velt grass and pelargoniums. Tools are provided and you are asked to bring your own gloves (spares  are available), water bottle, hat and enclosed footwear. At the end of the two hours there is morning tea.  It’s a pleasant and very useful way to get to know and care for the ‘wider sangha’, no less than the net of indra … humans, trees, bushes, bees, ants, birdcall, the wind, rain and  sun….the whole shebang in fact! If you are interested to take part please let Lizzie Finn know either at the dojo on a Thursday night or by email: lizziefinn@iprimus.com.au or phone: 0417 584 735 and she can inform you of dates and venues as they arise.

Current weeding dates and times:
Saturday 13 April: 7.30am to 9.30am
Sunday 28 April: 7.30am to 9.30am
Saturday May 11th: 8am to 10am
Sunday May 26th: 8am to 10am

Sacred Ink Writing Workshop with Brigid Lowry - May 4 and 8 September
"The creative life is a spiritual practice."  - Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Writing is a creative path to your depths, to growth and joy. It is a safe tool for the investigation of yourself and your world. It can be a map to your heart, a means of connecting to lost parts of yourself, a gentle road to your creativity and your spirit. The spiritual journey is also a creative path, forged by life events, and these two paths are often interwoven in our lives in mysterious ways.  Sacred Ink is a workshop is designed for people who have both a spiritual practice and a writing practice.
