Building the PTA Budget is a four-step process:
  1. The school makes a support ask
  2. The PTA develops their operating budget, including the school ask
  3. The PTA surveys families for their input
  4. The PTA approves their budget at a general membership meeting
The final budget for the 2019-2020 school year will be presented for an approval vote at the PTA General Membership meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd at 6:00PM, right before the PTA-supported Internet Safety presentation.
REMINDER: HELMETS FOR PE (GRADES 3-5)
REMINDER: Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders will continue biking in PE, so please send your children to school with their helmets if they have one. Please email Ms.Volk directly if you can volunteer to help.

PTA-SPONSORED PARENT EDUCATION NIGHT
SAVE THE DATE: Tuesday, April 23 from 6:00-7:30PM. Childcare is available.

If your child has access to a computer, tablet, smartphone (or has a friend who does), it's time to learn about Internet Safety. Technology is constantly changing, and it can be hard for parents to keep up!

Mark your calendars for our PTA-sponsored Parent Education Night on Technology and Internet Safety. Well-known speaker, Stefanie Thomas, will present an educational session covering cyberbullying, online gaming, sexting, cell phone and internet tips, and online posting. Stefanie Thomas is an internet safety expert who has worked with law enforcement regarding the exploitation of children online.

Arrive at 6:00PM to vote on the PTA Budget, and stay for the presentation at 6:30.
COMMUNITY NEWS & EVENTS
MAGNOLIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NOT-FOR-PROFIT EXPO
The Magnolia Chamber of Commerce is hosting a neighborhood event this Tuesday, April 16th at the Magnolia Community Center to help connect neighbors with local not-for-profit organizations, mainly focused on children.

If you are looking to introduce your family to more community volunteer opportunities, this is the event for you. Families can also sign up to be notified of upcoming volunteer needs. Children are welcome! Some food will be available.

CONGRATULATIONS TO BALLARD HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS!

We're excited to announce that the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) has awarded Ballard High School with a Support Music Merit Award (SMMA).

A total of 98 schools were chosen nationwide, and Ballard High School is the only school in Washington state to receive this award.

A SMMA Award recognizes an individual school for its commitment to and support of music education. The award also recognizes and celebrates the commitment of school administrators, community leaders, teachers and parents who believe in music education and are working to ensure that it is part of a well-rounded education for all children.

Many former Lawton students participate in the Ballard High School Performing Arts Program, and Ms. Cooper wanted to share this exciting news!

SAVE THE DATE: LAWTON TACO TUESDAY NIGHT
Nutty Squirrel Gelato in Magnolia will begin hosting "Taco Tuesday" events, starting with the first on Tuesday, April 30th. We will update you with additional information as we get closer to the event.
