Fitness
Atmosphere now offers guided running
Most of us bring our trainers on holiday with the goal of doing some physical activity. Now you can put them to good use and join our fitness coach on a guided run. Whether you run for fun, for fitness or you are in training for a race we have lots of amazing trails to explore for all levels and covering varying distances. Run through coconut plantations, past eucalyptus forest or traverse the side of Mount Talinis. Every trail is an opportunity for an adventure and to see the local countryside.
Spa Update
Pre-dive stretching on the Spa menu
Did you know we have daily pre-dive stretch sessions? You know that early morning dive, when you can’t wait to meet the fishes but at the same time feel a bit stiff from the previous day's diving? We have a solution to that! Meet us at the Warrior Gym every morning at 7.30 till 08.00 for a through pre-dive stretch with one of our yoga or fitness-teachers. You need to book in advance at the reception or spa, but you don’t need to be doing a dive to take part. We could all do with a bit of gentle stretching in the morning!
Marine biology
Identify a turtle at Atmosphere
Here at Atmosphere we are lucky enough to regularly encounter turtles during our dives, not just around the beautiful reefs of Apo Island, but also along our coastline. We would love to know more about the green and hawksbill turtles that inhabit our waters, so we are encouraging our guests to get involved and become citizen scientists! By submitting their turtle images to our Marine Biologist, Kirsty, individuals can be identified by the unique pattern of scutes (similar to scales) on their faces. If guests are lucky enough to have encountered a turtle new to our records, they are able to name them! All images are also submitted to a wider catalogue managed by LAMAVE, a local organisation researching local marine megafauna

Cruise the Visayas on the Philippine Siren

Sign up for an amazing special trip with drop off or pick-up at Atmosphere. With so many great destinations within the Visayas region, why not join us on a 6 night cruise around the Central Visayas in August 2019 or July 2020? We will dive with the thresher sharks in Malapascua, the sardines in Moalboal and amongst the stunning coral gardens of Balicasag onboard the S/Y Philippine Siren of Worldwide Dive and Sail. As a special treat, the trip either begins or ends in Atmosphere - which is why we will make you a very special package for a combination dive holiday. Contact adam@atmosphereresorts.com for pricing and packages. The first charter is August 16 to 22, 2019.
F&B update
Beer at Atmosphere just got that much more exciting
We love the local San Miguel beer at Atmosphere and most of our guests are happy to choose between a Pilsen, a Light or a Negra. There are times though when bar guests look for something a little different – or a tad bit more international! We now serve beer on tap at the bar – Heineken got the confidence to install a tap – and we also offer local craft beers from Birdie Num Num in Banilad, only 20 minutes away.
PADI Instructor Development
More new PADI Instructors at IDP
With a 100% passing score, our February/March Instructor course with was yet another successful event for Instructor Development Philippines. We had a great mix of American, Dutch, Chinese, British and Taiwanese candidates and with the very able help of PADI Examiners from Korea and China – thank you Sophia and Hoak – we had a fun examination weekend as well. Congratulations to Rachel, Iris, Zara, Max, Kelvin, Kenny, Edith, Happy, Kenns, Francis and Prince.
Gives Forward

Red envelopes for the Atmosphere Soup Kitchen

Last month we celebrated Chinese New year and for the kids who eat at our Atmosphere Soup Kitchen (ASK), it was an even happier celebration than normal. We distributed the traditional Chinese red envelopes to our guests at Atmosphere, with the option of donating money to the children and families benefiting from our Soup Kitchen in Candau-ay. We received a substantial amount, which will be put to good use buying food supplies, school uniforms and other necessities for the children residing around the Dumaguete dump site.

Last minute - Join us in Palau for some shark and manta action...

Every year, Atmosphere charters one of the Siren Fleet liveaboard ships for an exotic dive destination. May 13 to 20, 2019, we head off to Palau on the Palau Siren, a destination we have enjoyed visiting twice before. If you're keen to dive with mantas and sharks with us, we have great last-minute rates! Contact us for details at ulrika@atmosphereresorts.com

Atmosphere's new cycling jerseys

We are big fans of branded goods at Atmosphere and our t-shirts and rash guards sell like melting butter in sunshine. Now that we have extended our fitness services to Mountain Biking and Running, we are offering breathable cycling jerseys in our Boutique. Not just nice to look at but with pockets and zippers in all the right places, a welcome asset to your run or bike ride!
Photographer of the month

All the way from Australia – Ms Jenkins!

Jayne Jenkins came to Atmosphere from Australia to get material for a couple of articles, as well as to complete our famous PADI Frogfish Specialist course. She captured some incredible shots of our local marine life – not at all limited to frogfish – and we look forward to some of them eventually appearing in Ocean Geographic. In the meantime, here are a few of her beautiful marine life pictures. Jayne shoots with a Nikon D800 in a Seacam Housing, using 2 Ikelite DS160 strobes and mostly a Nikon 105mm 2.8 lens.
Excursion
Not all water is salt water – visit Balanan Lake!
Balanan Lake is a deep freshwater lake found in the mountains of Barangay Sandulot in Siaton, Southern Negros. The lake is bound by mountain ranges and fed by three streams making the ride through the mountains on the way very scenic. Activities offered include hiking the pathways around the lake, fishing, kayaking and boat riding. Just down from the lakes are three man-made plunge pools which are perfect for a refreshing swim after your walk around the lakes. Do not miss the 300 year old Balete tree by the entrance.
Spa update
