"Human progress is our cause, liberty of thought our supreme wish, freedom of conscience our mission, and the guarantee of equal rights to all people everywhere our ultimate goal."

-The Scottish Rite Creed
“In the works published for the use of the Craft we are told that the three great tenets of a Mason's profession are Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. And it is true that a Brotherly affection and kindness should govern us in all our intercourse and relations with our brethren; and a generous and liberal philanthropy actuate us in regard to all men. To relieve the distressed is peculiarly the duty of Masons - a sacred duty, not to be omitted, neglected, or coldly or inefficiently complied with. It is also most true, that Truth is a Divine attribute and the foundation of every virtue. To be true, and to seek to find and learn the Truth, are the great objects of every good Mason."
“Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment...”
Excerpt from the 18th Degree – Knight Rose Croix
“The Power of Knowledge is Transformative”
"You will declare that you accept all good men of whatever creed and faith as your Brethren, and understand that Freemasonry may teach great truths that do not exclusively belong to any one particular religion. If you interpret any one of the symbols used in any of the degrees as having a special reference to your own particular faith, you have no right to insist that another must accept your interpretation. Such understanding is necessary to be able to live according to the mandate of the New Law of Love…"
RiteCare Clinic Director Jacob Gutshall
President, Speech-Language-Hearing Association
Missouri RiteCare is well represented among the many Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists in the greater Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association community, but even more so in 2019! Jacob Gutshall, MHS, CCC-SLP, Director of the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic at Maryville University, in St. Louis, Missouri is currently serving as the President of the Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is leading the charge for advocacy for children in Missouri with communication challenges.
Jacob is a 2005 graduate of the University of Missouri Columbia Masters of Health Sciences program – where he made the decision to become a pediatric therapist during his practicum experience at the Scottish Rite Robert G. Combs Language Preschool. Jacob then went to work for the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic straight out of Graduate School and has been serving the RiteCare mission ever since! Jacob exemplifies the Scottish Rite Mission to “help children communicate” and works to reach the at-risk and under-served children in the Valley of St. Louis as well as the State level.
“Being involved in the mission of the RiteCare has allowed me to grow professionally as we strive to improve the lives of children with communication disorders. But at the same time, while observing the men and women on our Walker Scottish Rite Clinic board, I’ve received informal training on what can be accomplished through servant leadership and collaborative service. A girl with disabilities said it well, 'Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.' ~ Helen Keller"

The way to happiness; keep your heart free from hate, your mind free from worry, live simply, expect little, give much, scatter sunshine, forget self, and think of others.
“Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius... I pay no attention whatever to anybody’s praise or blame. I simply follow my own feelings.”
Excerpt from the 16th Degree – Prince of Jerusalem
“Our Masonic labors end only when we close our eyes upon this world to awaken in another and a better.”
"Righteousness and the impartiality of Justice are again demonstrated to you, while being shown how difficult it is to rebuild the Temple of Liberty once it has been overthrown. You are taught the symbolic meaning of rebuilding the Temple, and the purposes of the Scottish Rite Freemasonry: Religion founded on Love and Toleration; Philosophy which springs from Faith in One God and Hope of a future life; Morality which embodies the Wisdom of all ages; and a political Creed which rests on three great pillars of Liberty, Equality and Brotherhood..."
THE 1924 KIMBALL ORGAN
OF THE SAINT LOUIS SCOTTISH RITE CATHEDRAL

by Steven C. Monrotus, 33
°
Past Master of Kadosh, Saint Louis Consistory
Principal Organist, Valley of Saint Louis, Orient of Missouri
"There’s nowhere else on the face of this earth where one human being can be seated at an instrument and have this amount of tonal spread and this amount of power (save for a pipe organ of this size or larger). Anyone seated at its bench immediately senses that they’re in command of and in communion with something more than just a few stacked keyboards and a set of pedals framed on each side by an enormous wall of drawknobs. They’re seated at a literal symphony orchestra of timbres and pitches from which the conductor/organist can express kaleidoscopically the entire range of human emotion and sensitivity at the touch of a key. They’re seated at a Temple Of Tone speaking with the voice of a giant, one which must be heard in person and experienced in full to be fully appreciated. They truly know what it feels like, to be seated at the King of Instruments. And that’s all the wonder of music."

“To cure worry, spend fifteen minutes daily filling your mind full of God. Worry is just a very bad mental habit. You can change any habit with God’s help... The life of inner peace – Being harmonious and without stress is the easiest type of existence… Learn to relax. Your body is precious, as it houses your mind and spirit. Inner peace begins with a relaxed body.”
“Violence does, in truth, recoil upon the violent, and the schemer falls into the pit which he digs for another… The highest morality may prove also to be the highest wisdom when the half-told story comes to be finished.”
Excerpts from the 20th Degree – Master of the Symbolic Lodge
"Truth, Justice, Toleration as the rule of life, conduct and conversation."
"No falsehood can be other than an evil. To lie, expressly or by implication, is base and dishonorable. Without truth there can be no virtue. God is perfect truth, and every lie, prevarication, misrepresentation, coloring or concealment is an offense against Him, and disgraceful to a Mason..."

"Let the great light of truth, greatest and crowning light of all, shine in our Lodge: Truth, the imperial and divine, the infinite Attribute of God. Truth, that rebukes evasion, prevarication, and mental reservation. Truth, that rejoices in the light - itself and light twin emanations from the Deity. Let there be light! So may the divine light of truth shine in me!"
KABBALAH REVEALED
An Educational Series Presented by Anthony Kosinec
In this truly enlightening 16 episode series, Anthony Kosinec introduces “what Kabbalah is” and “what Kabbalah isn’t” in this overview of some of its basic concepts, and the difference between authentic Kabbalah and how Kabbalah is popularly viewed. He speaks from the perspective of “practical Kabbalah,” as taught today by Rav Michael Laitman, PhD. Essentially, this is the process of how to reveal Kabbalah’s hidden aspect: the Upper Worlds—what is hidden behind our five senses.

Kosinec explains that understanding the Kabbalistic “language of branches” is the key to starting a practical application of Kabbalah. He also puts across that a misunderstanding of this language is the reason Kabbalah has been misinterpreted in myriad ways—as religion, mysticism, magic, and many others—and that the key to start applying Kabbalah practically is to first understand that its language only describes the Upper Worlds: higher levels of consciousness completely removed from everything we receive through our five senses. From this basis, one can begin learning what one can do in order to attain these higher levels of consciousness.

What is in the first lesson?

  • 3 reasons why Kabbalah is called "the hidden science."
    • Purposeful concealment of the science by Kabbalists themselves.
    • Kabbalists wrote all their texts in a special language: "the language of branches."
    • Kabbalah studies what is hidden from our inborn perception.
  • The 11 most popular misrepresentations of Kabbalah, and why Kabbalah is not any of these:
    • Jewish Mysticism
    • Religion
    • Mysticism
    • Magic
    • That you have to be Jewish to study Kabbalah
    • That you have to had mastered preliminary wisdom before studying Kabbalah
    • Holy water
    • Amulets
    • Red strings
    • A means for protection
    • The same as Eastern teachings
  • The only requirement for studying Kabbalah is a sincere desire to discover the meaning of life.
  • Kabbalah studies how our life and our world has been created, and how to achieve connection with our life's source, the totality of reality.
Excerpts from the 21st Degree – Noahchite or Prussian Knight
“A free and independent Judiciary is indispensable to Human Progress.”
"It is certain that Truth, in the end, will always win, and the right prevail. Do not be impatient when God, for a time, allows falsehood and wrong prosper and overcome, for their day shall never be long..."

"Let not your tongue make mischief between other men, nor be harmful to yourself as is the flatterer’s, and the tale-bearer’s. Count it certain that the truth will always win, and the right prevail, in the end. Be not impatient when God, for a time, lets falsehood and the wrong prosper and overcome; for their day shall never be long, how-ever they may think themselves out of the reach of the hand of God."
“Stand up to your obstacles and do something about them. You’ll find they haven’t half the strength you think they have… Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different action or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all.”

MASONIC EDUCATION & PHILOSOPHY
"MORE LIGHT"
"To me, Freemasonry is one form of dedication to God and service to humanity. I am proud to walk in fraternal fellowship with my Brethren. Why am I a Freemason? Simply because I am proud to be near [a Brother] who wants to keep the moral standards of life at high level and leave something behind so others will benefit. Only as I personally become better can I help others to do the same."

-Brother Norman Vincent Peale
Scottish Rite Journal Quote from 1993

"Whence Came You was born out of a need for Masonic Education world wide. When lodges fell short explaining symbolism and the deeper aspects of our craft, it became apparent that something needed to be done. Bro. Robert Johnson began to record the papers he read and the response was tremendous. Reading a few pieces each week, and regularly releasing them to thirsty minds everywhere, the show began to take off and quickly became a staple for Masons, new and old."

"The purpose of X-Oriente is to help unite Masons who feel that Masonry should be more than just a nice meal with friends. It is a 20-40 minute Podcast that revolves around ideas that might be of interest to Freemasons, exploring the whys and wherefores of Masonry.

Each show will explore an idea or topic. Sometimes the topics will extend from Masonic practice into civics, philosophy, social sciences, literature and art. X-Oriente also is a passionate advocate for critical thinking skills. We'll never stop asking why, and we'll always look for evidence to back up our assertions."

FOUNDATION MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of the Scottish Rite Foundation of Missouri, Inc. to enhance the lives of the children of Missouri by actively embracing high social, moral and spiritual value through the RiteCare Childhood Language Program, Youth Programs, Scholarships and Disaster Relief.

FOUNDATION HISTORY AND PURPOSE

The Scottish Rite Foundation of Missouri, Inc. was originally incorporated in 1946 as the Scottish Rite Endowment, Philanthropic, and Educational Foundation, Inc.  Its purpose was to provide the public charities of the Order and go beyond that given by the Almoner to needy brethren.

The Foundation concentrates on four principal charities:

  1. To provide financial support of the Orient RiteCare Clinics;
  2. To grant undergraduate scholarships to deserving individuals attending an accredited college or university and pursuing a bachelor’s degree;
  3. To give financial assistance for medical, dental, and personal needs to children who would otherwise have to do without the treatment or benefit; and
  4. To give financial assistance to Missouri DeMolays to offset their expenses related to leadership training and education.

It has been a matter of custom and precedent to urge those financially able Scottish Rite members who are 32° to give $32, those who are KCCH to give $32.50 and 33° brethren to give $33 annually to the Foundation.  There is also an Albert Pike Society which is composed of members who give $10,000 to the Foundation.  The contribution may be made in lump sum or over a period of ten years.  Donors receive recognition by having their names inscribed on a plaque which lists every member and which is displayed in each of the Valleys.
