You're interested in taking part in the Peak District Challenge.

You can chose to navigate yourself or join a guided group

The 10km Back Before Dark is flagged on the ground with no need for navigation - you'll just need to follow the arrows.

On all other routes (25-100km) you will only be met by volunteers at checkpoints.

You can either navigate yourself around the route, or join a led team around the Peak District Challenge. If you need to brush up your skills before self-navigating, you could book a Beginners (Level 1) navigation course with Wilderness Development or a different organisation before attempting the challenge.

There's info about the level of navigational skill you'll need in our FAQs. Nothing about the route is deliberately navigationally difficult, but it's not suitable for complete beginners.

Guides are available only for the overnight section of the Silver 75km Challenge (during the day all Silver participants must self navigate). This makes the Silver a good challenge if you're generally good at navigation but would like the reassurance for the night-time leg!

Gold Ultra challengers must self-navigate throughout.

You can decide if you want to join a guided group when you register for the event and pay your entry fee. And it's easy to add a guide to your booking after registering if you decide you want one closer to the time.

My advice would be that if you're not sure whether your navigation is up to it, it's probably wiser to join a led group.

I look forward to seeing you all in September!
Cheers,
