Towing equipment:
Look beyond the steel

LOCAL GOVERNMENT FOCUS: Towing trailers behind heavy vehicles is a hazardous task directly covered by new Chain of Responsibility (CoR) laws.

Full LG Focus story here: http://www.lgfocus.com.au/editions/2019-01/towing-equipment-look-beyond-the-steel.php

A recent advertisement and news article placed in LG Focus highlights Bartlett’s practical response to recent changes in the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL). Local government fleets and utilities around the country now face new Chain of Responsibility (CoR) provisions that require all parties in the supply and operating chain to demonstrably manage safe work practices. Bartlett assists fleet managers and operators to safely and efficiently manage their towing needs through a range of product features.

Bartlett have a long association with many city and shire councils, so we understand the often different and region-specific towing equipment requirements of these fleets.

We believe that the strong Bartlett focus on compliance and accountability will appeal to local government fleet operators.  All Bartlett towbars receive a suite of rating assessment documents to enable operators to assess their operating parameters (for example, truck mass, static vertical coupling load, gross trailer mass and aggregate trailer mass). This of course includes the limits on 50mm ball trailer couplings when used behind heavy trucks.

When did you begin working with Bartlett and what brought you to the company?

I began working at Bartlett in 2003 after previously completing fabrication works for them. Soon after, they asked if I would like to join the team at Bartlett thus forming a continual relationship.

What are some of the big changes you’ve seen from customers and the industry over that time?

I have noticed over the years how the industry has grown with so many towing combinations and safety requirements. Demand and sales are reflecting clients' needs for well engineered and safe towing solutions.

Do you have a favourite / funny memory or project that you can share?

There has been many highlights over the years from truck shows, working on new prototype towbars and celebrating the 70th year milestone. Working with four generations of Bartletts including company founder Norman Bartlett.

If there’s one thing that will shape the industry in the next few years, it will be...

Further growth into the overseas market and helping to develop new manufacturing methods to help meet increasing demand for a Bartlett towbar.
